I was going to comment on how little they know about F1. Then I realised that if someone quizzed me on Baseball or American Football, I wouldn't be able to name a single player.

Great analysis of F factors, guys. Does that mean a Ferrari F430 is 25 times faster than an F-16 jet?

Look, I'm not a scientist, but I'm going to say... yes. Yes it is.

god, the lack of f1 is unbearable. They don't know shit about f1, and thats kinda dumb. Also the ring around the tires on the inside, is different depending on tires

option, prime etc etc

oh well, usually like drew and vinny to do car stuff, but this was a lot "i don't know" "maybe" "i don't understand"

It's almost as if they lived in a country that didn't know jack shit about F1...

well don't do a quick look about things you don't understand/know nothing about.

Some dude at best buy, out of 15 dudes in line, was buying this instead of Gears 3 like everyone else and it made the cashier get the wrong game from the locker. Dude was hella pissed.

What? The point of a QL is not for them to show of but for us to see if the game looks appealing.

Being a big F1 fan, from the US of all places, this was rather hard to watch. I thank GB for even covering it and at least giving it to someone who did his research and was semi knowledgeable.

It's quick looks, and well games in general, like this that make me wish Brian Ekberg was working for Giant Bomb. Brian was great with racing games back at GameSpot and I really enjoyed his coverage and insight on these games.

Well, F1 rules are often pretty dumb and the idiots around Ecclestone change the rules every season. So there's no shame in not knowing that stuff. Chances are it's all outdated next season anyway.

@baldgye: Hehe, it always amazes me that most Americans seem to have no knowledge about F1 or even football (soccer), sports pretty much the rest of the world is into. On the other hand I don't know any baseball or (american) football "stars" either.. sure, I've heard some names, but that's it. I guess it all depends on where you grow up. :)

Not really. Drew and Dave are doing a fine job with the occasional race game that is worth mentioning.

The wheels in F1 cars cost ALOT. You can buy a 2011 Ford Mustang for the price of a F1 stearing wheel and have a few thousand bucks change.

And yes. Thay are all real drivers. Drew took the place of my countryman Heikki Kovalainen i Lotus. And there are no F1 female racing drivers right now but there has been but they were shit.

Having played F1 2010 and having "some" F1 knowledge I can fully appreciate Drew going in cold on this game and trying his best to learn and explain. The games just don't explain/tutorialize anything and expect you to know every advanced detail. Thumbs up to Drew, he didn't have to do this but did it anyway.

Granted they don't really know anything about the sport, but still that was tough to listen to. Sebastian Vettel a real person? No, he's a racing God!

And still, people upset about Drew not knowing everything about F1. It's like Nascar outside the US. I live in Hungary and know almost nothing about Nascar, except: left turn, oval tracks, hundreds of cars racing, thousands of laps and that's about it.

I'm a rare breed in America. An American who knows a lot about sports more popular abroad. Listening to them talk about F1 was almost as bad, no worse, as when Jeff and Patrick played Madden. The comments about the wheel in beginning though at least made me know going in that neither of them are experts.

Anyway game looks pretty good. I didn't buy the last one but I'll be picking this one up.

That's a horrible thing to do to Brian. While I really liked Brian and his coverage of racing games I would rather he stayed at Turn 10 because for a car person like Mechberg, it must be the best job ever. I mean, he got to fly to the Alpas and do "research" for a fictional track they were going to make AND they get to drive awesome cars, for research of course.

so to answer Vinny's question, not only do they race in the rain, there are racers who actually improve in the rain. (Ayrton Senna was a master of wet weather racing.)

Lord in heaven though, that is some inside ass inside baseball in that game. I'm kinda reminded of Jeff's points in the Madden 12 QL. At some point, these serialized sports titles become so sim-heavy that there's no shot in hell that newcomers are going to be able to play. The lack of a good tutorial is an issue, but yeah, this is just an example of how sports games are less for gamers and more for sports fans.

Man i love F1 and this looks even better then F1 2010! Also i laughed so hard hearing Vinny and Drew talking about F1; great quicklook you guys! At least they showed some of the new features in F1 2011 (Drag Reduction System and Kinetic Energy Recovery System), would've been nice to see some new tracks like India / Nurbergring, but i'll look for that somewhere else!

I don't know about Madden being sim heavy but these games being inaccessible to non fans is a debatable issue. On one hand it would be nice for devs to put in an advanced tutorial that teaches new comers to a series about the sport so they better understand how to play the game. On the other hand the time not spent making a great tutorial can be used to include new features for fans of the sport. Tough call for devs.

they should get a guy in for these kind of games, like a freelance dude who knows about this stuff,

i like the quicklook because it shows how ppl who don't really know about F1 react to it, but it would be nice to see someone play the game who knows what he is doing :D
