Quick Look: Fallout: New Vegas: Old World Blues

I definitely agree that the amount of dialogue is a little excessive, but then again, it's some of the funniest, most enjoyable dialogue that Obsidian has done for FNV. As for VATS vs. real time, the issue is that with real-time combat, it's not a 1-to-1 system where if you aim at someone's head, you're not necessarily guaranteed a headshot like you would in an FPS. Fallout 3/New Vegas gun combat has always been dice rolls which makes VATS much more useful in some situation since VATS is often the only way that you can guarantee that you'll get a headshot.

I know they needed to move to a bigger office to help Whiskey Media grow, and they probably prefer working where they are now, but something has been missing since they left that basement-like office. There was more personality back then.

I may have missed it, but did they go from a basement-like office to an office-like basement? Because they're still in a basement.

Fallout 3 was so much better. One of my all time favourite games. New Vegas is the biggest disappointment I've had from a video game. Such a dull world to explore.

The gameplay is like exactly the same.

As for the story, I hated the whole faction stuff. Got in the way for me. The writing didn't stand out as better, either.

I didn't come to either game for the story/writing stuff anyway, it's the exploration that I love. And in that category, Fallout 3 wins hands down.

I seem to remember Ryan having similar HP monitoring problems in the Point Lookout QL.

When was the last time Jeff came across as legitimately enthusiastic? He's becoming a real downer on everything except the Bombcast, when his humor shines.

I still can't get over how awful these games look and play to me. I wish I could enjoy them but I hate just about every part of the gameplay, including the style and the UI. 

Wait. Ryan enjoyed Mothership Zeta? I certainly did not.

New Vegas is a much better game than Fallout 3. It may have even more bugs, but I still played through most of it within a week. Fallout 3.. not so much. I still need to finish most of the sidequests in that game. New Vegas just improved on the F3 formula in almost every way.

Just shows though, even though a lot of stuff was reused, New Vegas definitely isn't just Fallout 3.5. They offer different experiences.

I could not get past how shitty Fallout 3 played. As a result I never tried FNV. It looks like it has the same clunkiness. Bummer because I really enjoyed the fiction, just couldn't get over the gameplay. Just not fun.

25 minutes in, some gameplay!  I don't care for these games at all but wow is this dlc especially dull.

All I heard when that narrator started talking was Ulmeyda from Killer7.

I spent the rest of the Quick Look thinking about Killer7.

EDIT: I take that back. I also thought about Futurama and The Venture Brothers.

Did some of those robot voices sound like characters from Freedom Force to anyone else?

Every time I see other people play this game I remember how bad everyone else is. You max INT so that you're getting the most out of your levels, nothing else matters before that!

Edit: And always aim for the head!

I like how they literally got the Moviefone guy to be one of the robot scientists.
 
I kinda like this! I think I will get it, if uh, I ever bother to purchase Fallout New Vegas that is.

How are they still making new content for these games? Although, I guess WHY would be a better question. Do people out there really want more of this game that much? I loved and played a ton of Fallout 3, but New Vegas just seemed so insanely dated that I couldn't bring myself to play through much of it, let alone play through all of it and then pay for even MORE. Baffling. 

I played every Fallout 3 DLC the day it came out, I haven't touched the DLC for New Vegas. I'm going to (and picked up the first 2 cheap in the steam sale), but not feeling drawn back in like Fallout 3.

Never played Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas? That isn't just how the DLC is structured, that's how the main games are structured. And that is ALL gameplay. Even the dialogue because you get to choose your responses and use your skills in the conversation. Just because the player isn't shooting doesn't mean that isn't gameplay.

This quick look sold me on this DLC. It has a really interesting premise to it that doesn't seem to take itself to seriously. I think the comedic tone of this DLC is a nice change. The world also seems to be of decent size for lots of exploration.

@Agent47: As I stated before, what I came to both games for is the exploration - the story side of the game I'm not too fussed about (as long as it doesn't get in the way, like the factions did for me in NV). And as you said, the setting and atmosphere was way better in Fallout 3. That's why I love that game so much.

I get why others enjoyed NV more, but for me, I came to both games for specifically one thing, and New Vegas failed to make that one thing interesting or fun in anyway.

I actually know a lot of people who feel the same. I'm sure googling something like Fallout 3 vs New Vegas would show you that the opinion on the games is very much split.

With fully voiced MMO's coming out like SW:ToR and GW2, why am I still reading text boxes on single player games at all? I guess I am still a bitter betsy because of how buggy bot fallout 3 and NV were at release. It has made me leery of even buying Skyrim at release. I will wait for DLC and patches. 8 months after release, is NV still even mostly bug free?

One of those voices sounds like James Urbaniak, the voice of Doctor Venture.

This is the really best Fallout DLC released. Hopefully "Lonesome Road" will be as good as this .

.Sucks too cause I never finished F3.The game crashed way too damn much. And I actually counted 17 crashes 17!!.I only had 4 with NV and I beat.So if the bugs mean a stabiler game I am fine with that.

This looks fun, but after a glitch prevented me from progressing in Fallout: New Vegas, I doubt I'll ever go back to that piece of shit.
