Quick Look: Far Cry 3

Oh god, just launched the game from steam and got presented with a second (UPlay) launcer. Then after the game launches it basically locks up until it's able to connect to the server. Already regretting buying the game before I even started it =/ This better be worth it Ubisoft, 'cuz I can't wait for the moment when I can delete your POS software I have absolutely no interest in taking part in from my computer.

Damn, Jeff really has some issues he needs to work out. That hatred towards rich dbags is a little over the top.

Yeah, Jeff's feelings about the characters and the hope that the devs make it "clear that they are in on the joke" - which I'm apparently not, because I'm not sure what that means - has me confused. Maybe it will become clearer to me when I play, but so far they just seemed like oblivious and sure, privileged, kids on vacation. With a glaze of MTV spring break, I suppose.

Perhaps he'll elaborate on the podcast.

At any rate, being kidnapped and tortured is sure to make them more well-rounded. I'm looking forward to the player character's transition.

Man, if Vinny's ideas for this game actually came true, this would be the GOTY. That would be amazing.

This game is pretty awesome.

I actually enjoyed far cry 2 (It was flawed but it had a lot of cool concepts) so this looks fuuuuuuucking incredible. One the top of my xmas list this year for sure.

The guy who said its like the teens at the start of a horror movie is spot on. I dunno what Jeff is worried about, its fairly obvious that the developers are "in on the joke" just by using these characters and having them fucking kidnapped for ransom.

I did some playtesting on the multiplayer on the ps3 lets just say servers were freaking dicey :)

It takes a special kind of person to throw up devil horns unironically. It is a little confusing people not "getting it". Even if they were just normal people, the MTV presents framing on the presentation is RAMMING IT DOWN YOUR THROAT that these people are supposed to be obnoxious.

Jesus, Jeff's hatred of rich kids and constant "frat boys must die!" mentality is really starting to border on the side of deep seated mental imbalance.

Getting pretty excited for this game, gonna settle for the 360 version, really not bothered by framerate dips.

Even so, the douchiness is just a contrast to the horror, both in a horror movie and in the game. Right? Once they're in the shit, why would it still be quite such a hangup? What would the devs have to do to be "in on the joke?"

Get the 360 version over the ps3 version ps3 version has alot of the bad shading you typically get with ps3 ports.

Holy crap, I have never been more sold on a game than right now. Those first 15 minutes were absolutely amazing. This was totally not on my radar but it looks fantastic.

I saw in some interview, that you're supposed to dislike those people at the start. So the developers are at least aware and you don't have to hate humanity.

Haha that's probably true, but he aint wrong, and it was all pretty obviously shot in a way that was intended to create those feelings (and if not, well, death of the author and all that shit).

I dunno, after watching that transition and seeing compared versions of other recent games in the last 12-24 months, there doesn't really seem like much point owning a console as a gamer in 2012, if you're at all concerned with playing games in their "true form" - not that I'm implying there's anything wrong with not being. But that is a major difference, and in about 6 months it'll be -75% off on a Steam sale.

Nah. Far Cry 3 is really just a spiritual successor to 2, and the same for 2 to 1. The theme is that you're in the shit in a remote, open environment. No story connection at all.

I agree on some level with Jeff, this seems really dumb, but I'm not sure I can get past that and enjoy it. I also can't seem to enjoy games that blatantly incentivize killing without a hint of self-awareness anymore, so this looks to be something I can safely skip. Can you turn off the music and indicators? What I liked about Far Cry 2 was just becoming immersed in that conflict. This seems to be disregarding that philosophy entirely in making it overtly "gamey".

PC of course if I get it....I'm amazed. I didn't have much faith because the trailers seemed so scattered and disjointed. Out on the 4th. I'm w/ Vinny, I need to be convinced and my opinion of the game was up to now sort of slipping..but of course I really know about zip. So glad I didn't buy Blops2 if this pans out....cause I stil have Dishonored and X-Com also, besides whatever .

Kinda bummed Brad is manning the controls for most of the quicklook. Vinny and Jeff keep telling him to do fun things and he, being Brad, continues on with his boring indecisiveness. :/

I was never interested in the FarCry series, but watching this, wow... it's definitely on my radar now.
