Quick Look: Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Beta

The campaign is what I'm in for.

I hate the shotgun-duelling of Gears online play. They really need to nerf that thing.

Ugh, the MP still looks horrid on account of the shotgun being so prevalent. Oh well.

Do those command prompts indicate changing context-sensitive button assignments or just for that guy from Momento?

Have never understood the love for the multiplayer in Gears. I enjoyed the singleplayer in the first game, but the second didn't do much for me. Will probably pick up 3 when it drops to a lower price.

The Beta is so much fun. I'm impressed with what Epic did.

The character animations are leaps and bounds better than Gears 2.

Want to be playing this, but I don't have the patience to jump through all the hoops. Some beta this is. So you don't want people who have played the shit out of your previous Gears muliplayer to help you test your game? Um. Yeah.

Gears of War continually excites me with every release. But from what I've seen my complaints that have carried over from 1, mainly the shotgun, have not been addressed.

Furthermore, it looks like they made it even worse by adding in that other shotgun.

Am I crazy or the only one that feels this way. I'm really liking the new unlock system and the little awards and stuff. But this is kind of a dealnrealet

The beta plays like a dream. Such a massive improvement over Gears 2.

Haha you can tell these guys haven't played  gears multiplayer for any length of time...

man, I haven't played Gears multiplayer in three years and even I know he's doing it wrong.

Maybe its just me but why do they even use cover if you're just a bullet sponge for anything other than a shotgun or rocket launcher? Those automatic guns seem to do nothing unless the person just stands there for the 3 or 4 seconds it takes to unload on them

SP and stuff like Horde mode should be great, but the MP looks like trash.

Looks like dudes rolling around blasting each other with shotguns, this game just isn't made for competitive MP.

Too much negativity towards this superb franchise. What other options are their for 3rd person competitive online shooters. Dead Space 2 multiplayer? no thanks. Socom 4? (which, so far has gotten less than great reviews.) How' bout GTA online, yeh, that's loads of fun. Red dead multiplayer? Maybe I can pop in "The Club" or Kane&Lynch. Those are awesome!!! Uncharted 2 is pretty good online, but not much of a community. Plus, it's gameplay was obviously influenced by Gears of War. Either learn to use the Shotgun, or don't. Just play Horde and beast, enjoy the single player, and stop complaining.

I think I'll wait for Uncharted 3 for my fix.

I never really got into the MP in the first two games. It was just too frantic, none of the assault rifles seemed to matter as it was always the shotgun, torgue bow, or sniper rifle.

I finally got a free beta key from a giveaway blog. Sadly I wasn't able to get a beta key when they were first giving out since I was out of the house. =(

To the people complaining about shotgun battles dominating Gears MP matches, seriously STFU, you've probably played both Gears 1 and 2 MP for an hour combined if you think it's all about shotguns.

While I would agree with some of that, it's still a shotgun battle to the power weapons. If you fired up Gears 1 right now, you would not only run into tons cheaters, but 95% of the players use nothing but the shotgun and longshot (for downs).

We don't mention Gears 2..

I loooooove Gears. I don't own a 360 but I want to so badly just so I can play this series. It's so amazing.

Pretty cool. Haven't played the beta yet with so many new releases. If the issues from previous MP aren't fixed, I'm perfectly happy playing SP only.

This game is the only reason i wished i had a 360 ever.

I got into the beta today, and it's OK. Seems very inconsistent, like sometimes a point-blank Shotgun blast will kill a guy and other times it'll just take him down to half HP.

Like Gears 2, I'll be playing this primarily for Horde and co-op campaign. I never really cared for the competitive multiplayer.

Jeff plays like a complete noob lol. Come on hes played gears before. You gotta move a certain way.

Jeff is not qualified to review Gears 3.

Had a ton of fun playing this beta back when it came out.
