In before more comments about people complaining about anime and JRPGs as a whole based on a QL.

Just kidding! They'll never end. HF is quite J, though. All the more awesome VR commentary, I guess?

@Mamba219:  I have to agree. They gave Persona 4 (which was long-winded at first and continued to be repetitive at times) a chance and look how that turned out. Not to say all JRPGs, let alone all RPGs are all great. But really, RPGs are RPGs because they have their own stylized worlds, systems, concepts, etc. and with them come a lot of plot, story, details, etc. etc. to introduce and reinforce it. That and usually a good amount of continual character/world development. You really won't know if you'll enjoy something unless you give it an honest chance, and if you don't, you'll miss out on the genuinely amazing ones. This was my beef with the Devil Summoner 2 QL. Oh well.

I feel like these guys need to hire somebody who actually enjoys and appreciates JRPGs, because the fact that they rag on pretty much all of the ones they show is really irritating to me. One of my favorite sub-genres, it deserves someone who will be more objective and interested in pointing out pros and cons rather than constantly saying stuff like "I really don't care about what's going on or about the dialogue" while constantly making snide comments.

Good to know rpg's are still coming out that have no enhancements over ones that came out a decade ago.

And yet your comment somehow did it. The dubbing was fine for what it seems to be (a kinda bland JRPG that reeks of Lunar). Dubbing of stuff and things can be fine, if you don't like it just get your fansubs and stop whining.

Well, Yukiko was kind of a reluctant princess at first. But I also think that's a stretch.

I get a big Wild Arms vibe from this. The look of the battles + a main character with a mouse like critter + choosing what character to start off with... it seems vague on paper, but Wild Arms nostalgia is hitting me like a ton of bricks watching this.

I thought this game looked fun enough to give it a go (I checked out the beginning of Levant van Schweitzer's  side of the story earlier on Youtube.), but you can't buy the UMD anywhere, which I prefer over download versions.

I broke down today and created a PSN account, went to Walmart and bought a PSN Card, but then you have to either use their DRM software on your PC with a USB hookup to your PSP, use your PS3's ethernet port to connect to the internet, or you have to find a WiFi hotspot somewhere to use your PSP directly.

I didn't want the DRM software on my computer and my PS3 is no where near my wired DSL router, so I drove down to the only free WiFi spot I know in town and got about half way done with the download when the battery died on my PSP. Joy!  So now I go home to charge it up but the WiFi spot I was using was closed when I got back and I think they must have some way to shorten the range so you can only use it inside the store or they shut the WiFi off, because I couldn't connect sitting outside the store after it closed.   I called around and found out that Taco Bell has free WiFi for customers and they are open till 3:00 AM, so I am going to head down there in a few to finally get my copy of this game that was already paid for.

What a pain!  I should just bite the bullet and go out and buy a wireless router and get my PS3 online for stuff like this.  The only reason I haven't is because I despise interacting with a million vulger mouthed rotten kids.  That's why I don't play MMO games either.

P.S.  Great Quck Look, Ryan and Vinny!  You guys are funny as hell!  I don't know I thought that the Ceci girl was kind of funny with her prim and proper sighs ---- hand over her fore-head and slacker/can't be bothered attitude.  She had lots of excuses and really did not want to do any thing that involved work!  LOL.  It reminds me of my friend downstate that would be laying on the couch drinking a beer and yell out to his girlfriend in the kitchen to please bring him the remote when it was lying only two feet away on the coffee table.  Talk about lazy!  LOL

Can't believe this game is like a week old and already unavailable on Amazon.  I thought we were finally behind the days of Atlus making their games impossible to find unless you pre-ordered them.

I habitually avoid JRPGS besides SMT stuff and especially avoid generic JRPGS, yet this game looks relatively polished or something because I find myself strangely attracted.

PSP JRPGs always feel like B-grade adventures, so they have to port over full console RPGs like FFVII,VIII,IX, or Persona 3.

Looks alright. I like me some JRPGs, and no random battles and what appears to be a fairly deep combat system are pluses. Might have to dust off the PSP.

I'm confused by your statement.
FF7 was on a console and so on and so forth..not ported until rather recently to the PSP (Crisis Core and P3P) and Crisis Core still dosen't feel like a B-grade adventure and I doubt P3P will either.

The best part of anime cutscenes in RPGs is they tend to always be for some little scene that activates out of nowhere and doesn't mean much for the actual story while the story heavy scenes are clicking through dialogue.

PSP (and DS in some cases) really seems to be where to go for RPGs lately, not exactly revolutionary here, but enough of the new (no random battles) mixed with the classic old-style makes it seem pretty promising to me.  Looks pretty polished too.

Considering this is the same company that did Knights in the Nightmare, Riveria and Yggdra Union, one can probably expect at least a very clean and polished RPG.  Atlus tends to pick solid titles to publish as well.

@Mamba219: I agree, that's always seemed to be the case, that most of the GB staff leans west when it comes to RPGs, which is fine if that is what your taste lies in, but I'd like to see somebody really into JRPGs on the crew to bring it some balance.  Like the 1UP Active Time Babble folks, or even bring in John or Gia from AV (who did some game looks on their site as well).
I feel like Vinny tries, but they really shouldn't put Ryan on JRPG QLs.

When Ryan spelled "Hexyz," the only thing I could think of when he said the last three letters were Xander, York, Zach. Deadly Premonition has ruined the alphabet for me :(

On topic, this game looks a bit generic, but it might be something good to play in bed. Get mah dungeon on before sleepy time. Too bad FFIX when it releases will be a better choice and cost a fraction of the price. Get mah Vivi on before sleepy time.

EDIT: I'm with Ryan on not liking the flustered RPG main characters. That hasn't happened as often with the RPGs I've played the last few years, thank goodness.

It was an igneous sphere, as in fire. Which makes sense seeing how it was a fire attack.

For some reason I want to watch Ryan do an endurance run of a crappy and utterly typical JRPG. There's just something about the fact he's absolutely nonplussed about everything that's hilarious. It's not interest and it's not snarky.

Original PSP RPGs suck so they port good ones from PS1 and PS2 over to make up for the lack of quality RPGs. Of course there are very few exceptions.
