I love @brad's approach to games coverage.

"Well I understand it is indeed my job to show you this game and give my thoughts however I like this game so I'm not gonna show it just buy it yourself and play it ok lol"

At a certain point "If this looks appealing to you then stop the video and play the game yourself" will suffice, no need to break teeth over something so silly.

To be fair he actually played the game this time unlike in The Witness QL

these quuck looks are becoming too quick :(

I would have loved to show like half of the insane shit in this game but it would just undermine everyone's own experience with it. You don't even know! So far it's a shoo-in for moment of the year.

Also, isn't it called a QUICK Look for a reason? LOL I miss the shorter looks at games rather than the half-hour long extravaganzas, but I understand the point behind it all.

Another "OMG this is sooo good, but I can't say why" game. It doesn't sell me, I'm not keen on spending money sight unseen. I would like the know what I'm getting into, spoilers be damned. I'll wait for the spoilerific video like I did with The Witness just so I can see what the fuss is about. >_>

Looks like the perfect game for anyone who thought Limbo needed a bit more Watership Down.

I am one of the people who absolutely hated Limbo. I didn't find the artstyle remotely interesting, and the gameplay just felt awful. It was like a slower paced "I want to be the guy" with all the retro game references removed. Seemed like they were just making an awful game more awful. Is Inside significantly different, like is it more than just an exercise in frustration? Or is this going to be yet another indie puzzle-platformer that everyone gushes over, but there's no real substance?

Hmm. Not baiting you or anything, but I'm curious if you apply this to other media as well? Do you read parts of books before you buy them, for instance? Or if you're not into books, do you watch large segments of a TV show before you decide to watch it in full? There are ways to do both of these.

I ask because I find this a regular sentiment for games and only games, and I'm curious as to why and how prevalent it is. Books often take longer to read than playing entire games, so it isn't purely a time commitment (Same goes for large TV shows like Dr Who or Game of Thrones). Books also often cost roughly equivalent to the games this sentiment tends to be applied towards (10-25 USD for hardbacks upon release), and TV shows are also very expensive (Netflix/Hulu are between 96 and 180 USD per year, and box sets of shows are even more expensively priced). So it isn't purely a money thing either. It's interesting to me.

SPOIL THE GAME FOR ME SO I CAN DECIDE IF I WANT TO BUY IT.

People are weird. I don`t think there`s any fan base that`s so sensitive to spoilers at the same time as people want shit spoiled before they buy something as gamers. Must make it an absolute impossible task trying to balance that when covering something.

I guess a better way I can express it is that I'm looking for that initial hook. I'm waiting for it to grab me. I'm not going to buy a book or a movie without finding out what it's about, especially if a friend or someone else praises it telling me it's amazing, but fails to say why. It's equivalent to a movie trailer that fails to convey the message to get me excited and interested. While the Inside has a very cool look and premise, the gameplay leaves much to be desired for me and that is important, for me at least, in a game. Hold right and solve a puzzle every now and then. Is that all you do, because that's what I'm seeing. To me that's not compelling, or worth my time and money. And if the hype surrounding the game is story related, then why would I play such a game with what I find simplistic mechanics when I can just get to the good stuff and watch it on Youtube instead? Or, does the crazy spoiler stuff down the road change the gameplay around in some amazing way? If so, it would be nice to know that, or at least hinted at. At this point I don't feel the game has grabbed me and makes me want to play it.

Bottom line, if something interests me enough, I'll get it and read/watch/play it. But I'm not going to play a game or whatever based on obfuscated praise without telling me why it's so great. If you have to spoil just a bit to get the point across so I can finally step across that dividing line from ignorance/not interested into "holy shit, that sounds cool" side of things, then do so. Otherwise, I'm not going to consume a product sight unseen regardless of what people say. Drop a hint, spoilers be damned. In this case, I hear so much praise, but the gameplay doesn't seem all that interesting enough for me to play it so I can find out what the fuss it about.

@soullos: On the other hand, if they had dropped a hint in this video you would have others here complaining about spoilers. Even the devs have said very little about this game before release, other reviewers have said that the surprise is key to you enjoyment of this game. I think it`s okay to say that if the first 16 minutes of a game that`s 4 or 5 hours long doesn`t grab you then maybe the game isn`t for you, or that the spoiler videos can wait for a few days after release. As someone who has played and loved this game, what you see here is largely what you get with the stuff that`s hinted at near the end of this video getting expanded on and going in some pretty wild directions. But the gameplay is largely what you see in this video for the entire game, with a lot of clever puzzles built around it. Like Brad said, the gameplay is very much a much more polished Limbo with not nearly as much trial and error and cheap deaths.

They could've easily said "spoilers up ahead. If you want to be surprised turn off now" or something like that and if people complain, that's their fault. But that's neither here nor there. Thank you for the information regarding gameplay. At least now I know what to expect from the game and it's clear the game is not for me if that's all there is to it from a gameplay perspective. I'll just wait for the spoiler cast or whatever GB plans to do just so I can see what all the fuss is about. Maybe the spoilers will pique my interest enough to actually play it? The same was with the Witness. I was frustrated by the "OMG this game is so good but we can't say why cause spoilers" but after watching the interview with Jonathan Blow I can see why it's so great and it made me want to play it. I don't care if it was spoiled, in fact, it helped me, it garnered interest where there was none. :)

So...when people aren't mad at Brad for "spoiling" some of the tiniest shit (the early Dark Souls 3 discussion comes to mind)...turns out they're also mad at him for not "spoiling" enough. Got it.

I am just around the halfway point and so far nothing about this game is grabbing me besides the aesthetic. I guess I should have known better. I liked Limbo okay when it first dropped, and thinking back on it I'm not really sure why. This game had a look that sucked me in enough to purchase and...I won't say I regret it, but I'm not really getting the hype either.

Probably not the only one in the world, but I much prefer Inside (and I really liked Limbo!).

Alright, this comment gave me the idea of making someone else who's finished the game sit down with me later this week to replay some of the more memorable sections so we can gush about what we liked. Wouldn't work so well for every game, but this one has the easy chapter select + insane moments that would make it appropriate. Someone help me think of a name.

In general I'm more hesitant to show off too much before a game is out for purchase. Five hours after release there will be full playthroughs posted on YouTube, so post-release feels like a more appropriate time to dig into more of it if people want it.

I would love it if you did this. Some of my favourite content at Giant Bomb is the Game of the Year stuff when you guys really dig into the meat of games, talk about stories and moments, etc. I buy more games that week than any other week of the year.

@brad: I think it's OK for you guys to experiment with a spoiler cut-off point in Quick Looks. Not just saying 'turn this off if you don't want to be spoiled', but doing the QL more or less spoiler free as normal, then have a thing come up that says something like 'spoiler zone' at the 16 minute mark of this video and continue to show off the stuff you wish you could but 'can't'.

When it's hyper-clear, I think people can/should make their own decision if they want to keep watching or not.

These are the people who write a game off just because of its hour length and would rather watch someone play it on YouTube than play it themselves.

Just played the game and I enjoyed it marginally more than Limbo, but I didn't love it. The bizarre ending section definitely makes up for the occasional retread of Limbo that goes on in some sections. Some frustrating timing-based puzzles but overall excellent style and aesthetic.

This didn't hit with me the way Limbo did. Looks great, but it was pretty obvious where they were going with the game the whole time and the end was just weird, whereas Limbo had a sense of mystery and intrigue that really resonated at the end.
