Ugh, this game looks incredibly slow-paced. I wonder if kirby's movement rate had to be limited to make up for the lack of precision in the stylus controls...

Cannot... resist... plasticine. Too... much... of my childhood.

I'd like to play a Nintendo platformer that mixes Mario, Kirby, and Donkey Kong games.

The level design just seems bland and empty. There were a ton of times in this QL where the screen just had one platform center-stage and 5 or 6 enemies coming in from the left or right.

@sudo_melon: Canvas curse had some pretty fast paced segments. Even taking a look at just the first world from this let's play (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE3x9lS6rwU) you can see how much faster the pace is, not to mention the enemy powers. Honestly the thing I'm the most shocked about is the amount of levels. They basically beat an entire world during this quick look! So ~20 minutes for a world, and only 7 worlds, so an hour and twenty minutes to beat the whole game??

Wow. I haven't actually played any Kirby games since Super Star, but this sure looks like a disappointing iteration in the series.

I always hear a lot of anti-ketchup talk from hot dog and hamburgers aficionados, but I've yet to hear an actual explanation as to why that dogma is held.

Fuck it, I'm 30 seconds into this and I already love it. I'll probably change my mind the instant I see the gameplay, but oh well.

Insane, ketchup is the prime condiment for those foods. What else am I gonna put on a hot-dog? RANCH?

Cheese on a fucking hot dog? That sounds like a case for the Hague tribunal.

While I can eat hot dogs without ketchup, it's no doubt the second most important topping after mustard for such things.

I played Triple Deluxe and this one looks like it's more fun to play...
Maybe I'm not a Kirby fan but I wouldn't recommend Triple Deluxe to anyone.
This and Canvas Curse seem way more interesting, this one looking more easy but less annoying.

I think Dan is off about this game as well as the Toad game, both of which fall under the same umbrella, which is simple games for children. WiiU is a kid's console and these are games for young children, simple mechanics in a bright nonoffensive environment, they aren't for old men like Dan. I would rather see two scores for the review, one for adults (the 2 stars is fine) and one for children, because this game looks pretty good for kids.

Why would GB start writing reviews targeted for children? That is certainly not the intended point of GB, nor is it the expertise of any editor or personality on the site.

This looks incredibly dull and boring to play. Like most things from Nintendo these days it is very striking visually but i have absolutely zero interest in playing it.

Game play aside, the visuals are splendid and charming as hell. I might still check this out when or if the price comes down eventually. Though it's a damn shame you spend so much time looking at the tablet instead of the screen.

This is not the Kirby I like. Where's the swallowing enemies to gain powers? Where's the fight arenas and Wild West showdowns? Where's the secret areas to find?

This would be better as a Sonic game, since one of Sonic's (few) iconic abilities is spin dashing.

This pains me because, if this were a platformer — it'd be amazing. They had to go with a dumb gimmick and it ends up killing the game.

I'm just gonna say it, Epic Yarn was just as bland to play as this one seems to be. Looks nice, just as Epic Yarn did (although it seems Epic Yarn did incorporate its cloth stuff more into gameplay than this does), but I couldn't tell you a damn thing about what happened in that game other than when you got to the end of a level, the music would play and Kirby would do that dance.

These games are clearly made for children as they remove any and all obstacles that could potentially hinder progress, to the point where you could give it to a 2 year old and it would eventually make it to the end.

Well this was a disappointment... On another note Kirby's Pinball is complete bullshit and I have no idea why Jeff still likes it. I love pinball and Kirby, so I picked this game up on virtual console and it's a BAD game. Blockball is the far superior Kirby Gameboy game

I.. I don't understand why HAL and Nintendo is so goddamn intent on gimping Kirby games that come out on consoles and removing the most distinct elements of the Kirby game. Srsly, everyone fucking loves the clone elements of Kirby. This and Epic Yarn do that for reasons I can't fucking comprehend - also they're dumbed down to shit, which is notable considering Kirby games are already really fucking easy.

Seriously! What the actual fuck!

@vandell: And then games such as Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Kirby Triple Deluxe drop out of memory.

I have never played Canvas Curse so I can only trust what others have said about it. It is curious that Rainbow Curse has been reviewed with such a varying score range.

As for only staring at the GamePad for the whole game, I don't quite understand that complaint. I get buying a normal console and wanting to see it on a big TV, but the Wii U is not a normal console. I've always thought the point of the GamePad is to allow the Wii U to be versatile; to be able to have games that could use the TV and GamePad in conjunction or only use the GamePad. From its first announcement, I thought that Rainbow Curse would be commended for being a sizable game that makes full use of the GamePad's touch screen and for having the gall to be practically a GamePad-only game. Some of the enthusiast press have asked for games that make full use of the Wii U GamePad, but Rainbow Curse is being somewhat derided for its particular attempt at it.

Well, the detail of the GamePad screen is not ideal and big HD TVs are expensive so.... Argh! I'm confused.

It's a weird Chicago thing made popular from a scene in Dirty Harry. People seem to care too hard about what other people do to their food.

I'm still going to pick up up because:

  1. I didn't play Canvas Curse so it probably won't feel stale to me.
  2. The clay artwork is incredibly striking.
  3. I feel bad I rarely use my Wii U.

Ketchup is generally viewed as covering up the flavor of whatever it's put on, rather than complimenting or enhancing it. So the no ketchup rule makes sense to me when it comes to restaurant burgers, but it's not like hot dogs are some delicious prime cut of meat. I don't get why some people are uptight about it.

I liked Triple Deluxe and wasn't really following this game, just assumed it was the "Kirby game" for WiiU, guess I was wrong :). I'm always saying I want to see more interesting use of the gamepad, but interesting is the key word, this looks like basically a high quality but gameplay wise very mobile-ish game. Not what I meant Nintendo :).

My pre-order for this game happened to ship late, but I would've checked reviews or QL before opening it anyway. From this QL, it's definitely getting returned as soon as it arrives.
