when you switch to character that you haven't played before it doesn't remove the access to pvp arenas and end game challenges. plus you can choose not to reset if you aren't ready yet and do that later with Manifold NPC in Avengers Tower

@dark_lord_spam: In offensive? Are you talking about the same game that's in the QL? This game is a watered down version of Marvel Ultimate Alliance. A game that when new you could buy for $60 and get access to over twenty playable characters that had more playable depth and unlocking potential then the characters in this game. To get the bare minimum same amount of characters you now have to pay hundreds of dollars and even then the game is nowhere near the production value of the $60 predecessor. Just because it's F2P doesn't excuse it from being a cash grab and it's silly that people keep excusing F2P games. Developers have found a way to give people less content in games and expect us to pay three to four times as much then we did before if we want to break even and get the same amount we used to get when we just bought the game upfront. It blows my mind how many people are so accepting of this stuff.

Again, I totally understand the desire to own everything about a game, but this model doesn't exist to serve that purpose. What free-to-play does is allow people with limited or no income to try something out with minimal risk, then decide if it's worth additional time/money. It makes the consumer themselves - rather than some combination of Metacritic and retailers - the arbiter of their investment.

@zevvion: i can tell you have never used steam then, once u buy the game its ours forever...even if you change computers...and id take steam over xbox live or psn network anyday

No, it's not. When Valve's servers go down as they might someday go; in theory, all the purchases you ever made will be lost forever. Of course, Valve has come out and said if that dark day comes they will find a way to unlock all the games you ever bought available for use outside of Steam. I do trust them on that, don't get me wrong, but that's how it is.

With consoles I just own the games. Forever. If the servers go down I still own them, if Microsoft explodes I still own them. If Sony becomes a watched terrorist organization I still own them. They will always be mine no matter what.

In your original comment you said you never really owned console games and at least you do on Steam. I'm just pointing out your logic is severely flawed.

When the Steam servers eventually goes down, you can still play every game you've bought offline. You can make physical back-up copies of every game you own in case you need to install a game. You would need the Steam client obviously, but it's really the same thing as any console game. Any Xbox 360 game requires a Xbox 360 console. Though in the end, I still feel the Steam deal is better. If you manage to ruin your physical copy of console game, it's gone. If you lose your physical Steam back-up, just make another one.

This business model is not going away, so at a certain point you have to choose which is worse: buying visual variety, or buying stats?

There are more solutions than this. I think we need to strive to get past false dichotomy as a community.

There are plenty of games on Steam which don't require Steam to run.

Didn't know that. Thanks for pointing that out.
