I have practically zero affinity for the Mega Man series but damn if I don't want to pick this up at some point. I'm just sitting here watching Dan and Jeff scroll through the museum and I can't help but smile.

After playing through 1, 2, 3, and 5 again quickly, I've come to the realization again that people who say 2 is the best in the series are certified nutjobs. Of the 1-6 games, 3 is easily far and away the best. 2 has such cheap/irritating Wily bosses and numerous poor levels...plus the addition of sliding/Rush/additional challenging levels in 3 made it vastly superior.

Plus the first game is pretty rough. I definitely appreciate the save state feature in this collection. Kind of wish they had the Rare Replay "rewind" feature too, but oh well. It's a pretty snazzy package.

(now if they want to refine their SNES/PS emulation and put 7, 8 and X1-6 in another package, I'd definitely get that too!)

P.S. Mega Man X is secretly/not secretly the best Mega Man game period, hands down, no contest.

Dan asked if there ever was any kind of "Bee Man" when they were looking at the sketch of a "Hornet Man". There was in fact an actual Hornet Man, in Mega Man 9.

I'm surprised they didn't name the first female robot master Woe-Man. :p

I've been looking forward to this. Thanks, guys!

Dan's excitement of Charge Man was the best part of my day. Hell...the best part of my month so far.

Just to correct you on a slight mistake: Mega Man 2 did not have Rush in it. Rush was introduced in Mega Man 3. Mega Man 2 has Item-1, Item-2 and Item-3. Item-2 works a lot like Rush Jet, but does not look like a dog.

Mega Man X2 is secretly/not secretly the best Mega Man game. It improved on what MMX did so well, without adding TOO much and fucking everything up (Looking at you, MegaMan X5 and X6). Also, might I introduce you to two vastly superior products from the PS2/GameCube/Xbox era?

@pslyy: Yeah, Metal Man for life. I'm guessing the reason some people beat Air Man first is to get Item-2 early on. I think that's the reason to do it if you're speedrunning, at the very least.

I wouldn't mind paying $60 for a Mega Man X complete collection. Mostly because I never really played much in that series. Don't think I even finished one either. Though I do believe I made it through most of X3.

Add Smooth McGroove's versions of the stage music, and I'm paying whatever they ask for.

I hate it when people play 4:3 games with extra images on the borders. There's no reason to have the screen cluttered, just have some black bars there! Every game should have pictures on the borders turned off by default.

@tanookisuit: I bought both of those day one. The X collection is just sad because X and X2 are both really good, then X3 is kind of lame, X4-X6 are...well, not good. And the Anniversary Collection had its fair share of weird emulation quirks and oddities, especially on the GameCube, which is where I had it. It definitely had more games, but it was also $30-40 to my recollection, not a $15 download.

Oh also, X2 needlessly complicated the formula for me, and the music changed tone in a weird way I couldn't get behind. I still like it, but getting Zero's parts from the weird side boss guys always felt unnecessarily obtuse. I think X is a more pure experience and I like it tons more even today.

The museum stuff seems neat and I've never played 4-6 so I guess now is as good as time as any to change that.

X4 was way too easy by "MegaMan standards", otherwise it's a fun game to run through, flipping around as Zero for once. The two characters actually felt/played differently, which was a nice change of pace and some of the music is pretty dope. Iris and Double are dumb throw-away characters.

The X2 side-boss parts game was a bit annoying, considering the path was randomized for those guys. It did add a bit more planning on your part as the player, if you wanted to go for those pieces and avoid fighting Zero before Sigma. It was neat but can really fuck up your play-through.

The Game Cube version, unfortunately, was gimped by the control issues in the Anniversary collection. I own these versions as well, not having known better at the time. It's also kind of weird playing the X games with that Game Cube controller, doesn't feel quite right. The X Collection also won't work if you are using component cables, unless there is "one weird trick" I don't know about with the video settings :(

Jeff's idea of Mega Man Maker is pretty interesting, but he's right that the bossfights would be a lot harder to create.

Back in my day, these "maker" games (also known as a "level editor") came as a free bonus with a full proper video game. Like Mega Man Powered Up, for example. Glad Jeff likes his Mario Maker so much, but he's giving that thing way too much credit.

I'm fairly sure Jeff's version of "Back In My Day" trumps yours. Also, the referees have decided that no one is allowed to say "back in my day" when referencing a PSP game that only came out nine years ago.
