Quick Look: Metro Redux

Welp a minute in and this is going to be a bit of a controversial quick look I think.

Also the subtitles comments... goddamnit Dan.

I can absolutely understand that the Metro series isnt for everyone, but for my money I could not be happier. I absolutely love it. It runs beautifully on my machine and controls wonderfully with M/KB.

I really enjoy that there is more to it then the regular corridor-shooter. It has a fantastic story (slow yes, but incredibly effective) and it does a great job breaking up the action and entice you to try different playstyles.

Dan was the last person I expected to be on this Quick Look. This will be interesting!

@twisted: I actually agree with him, I've never liked how the Metro games played.

The man's entitled to his opinion (and Metro understandably isn't for everyone) but since Dan joined the crew, I think I've yet to agree with him on... well... anything.

Can't pick this up until I'm working again, but I can't wait. Feel free to gift me your copy, @danryckert!

What's the point.

I saw this go up and went "Please not Patrick". Mostly cause I already know what he is going to say about this game/series. I clearly got the Monkey's Paw version of my wish.

oh wow. i didn't care much for this game either but damn dan.

maybe you shouldn't have done this quick look? not saying it absolutely has to be an all positive thing, but people buy games based on these. maybe you should try to not be so dismissive.

I like that his main complaints about the game (slow pacing, survival mechanics, etc.) are the reason many people love the series.

Wow, first time Dan is negative about something and people are going crazy :P

I didn't care much about these games either though.

The Stalker series doesn't have those "Idiot mechanics" but it's still somehow even slower paced than Metro. I wonder what Dan would think of those games.

Dan completely misses the point of the game. He hates everything about it that is done on purpose. Next time give the QL to someone that doesn't hate stuff like that, because judging by this QL it's one of the worst games ever made.

@perilator666: It his job to convey his feelings on a game to the wievers. If someone dismisses this game soley based on this quick look it is the fault of that consumer, not Dan.

Besides, no one should form a solid opinion on a product based on only 1 review.

@amyggen: That's fair, to be clear I've not played either game though do intend on it at some point (I own 2033), so therefore I don't hold an opinion. But these games are fairly well regarded, so while I find Dan's extreme opinion on them funny, others might not.

Gotta feel a bit sorry for Dan. Metro 2033 is an excellent game that is worth diving into (With Russian language and English subtitles, as Patrick suggests). One of the most immersive games ever.

As for "I'm always getting caught by this asshole and running out of air", there is only one thing that can be said to that: gitgud

I'd love that. I'm all for people who don't generally play these games trying them out. Those of us who DO like the types of games in question still see enough to judge if we'd like it or not, regardless of what the staff thinks. I've bought plenty of games they've hated in the quick looks, and still enjoyed the quick looks in question.

Dan can be a hypocrite, Halo's lore is bullshit but metal gears is great? Metro has boring bullshit but metal gear is all 'prime cuts'?

Really wish Patrick were there to defend the games. It would have been really fascinating to hear that exchange.

Just played through 2033 Redux myself awhile ago, i played Last Light when it came out and liked it a lot more over 2033.

Cant wait for the next Metro game and what ever that sci-fi game they are working on turns out to be too..

Oh man, Dan. All those things are for atmosphere. And for a lot of people, it works.

Dan is generally marvellous, but I'm starting to find how proud he is of his ignorance to be really off-putting, regardless of how self-aware he is.

I don't want to be put off viewing content! :(

@fisk0: Fair point and we can't expect the guys to always like the games they are playing on the QL's but I do expect them to know a little about the version they are playing, it was obvious neither had any idea or cared what had been done to this version and provided very little information, I do expect a little professionalism from them.

You could've stop this. It's all downhill from here.

Can we expect more insightful analysis like this from Dan in the future or is Metro a special case for some reason? Interesting new direction for the site in the either case.

I agree with this, he revels in his ignorance too much. he needs to move on to a different joke.

I have a very high tolerance for watching unprofessional/blind QLs as well as Dan's nonsensical declarative statements but this QL specifically pissed me off in the exact same way Metro 2033 pisses off Dan.

I've never played any of the Metro games and this video was more just 23 minutes of Dan getting angry at a game he doesn't like or understand and seemed to be playing wrong than it was a QL. I would appreciate it if we can get a QL Solo with Patrick to provide something more informative.

Its incredible to see all the hate on Dan for this QL. Disliking a game is fine folks, I promise!
