Quick Look: Metro Redux

I love the Metro games and I think this quick look is incredible. I don't think they're fantastic games but they're well worth playing if you have an ounce of patience.

Use xpadder to speed up the sesitivity of the right analog stick it works flawlessly!!!!

@shortbreadtom: I have no qualms with those who put forth valid arguments about him being ill-suited for the QL. Those were not the folks I was talking to. It was directed to those others who seem to be under the impression that this QL is a crime against some sacred code of theirs.

These are amongst my favorite games of last gen.......... damn dan :)

But i dont get all the 'now people wont buy this game' stuff, wth even if i wouldnt have played the game id be able to see that the stuff dan hates is stuff I would fucking love in a shooter.

And you know what? i would've found it more shocking if dan DID like the metro games haha....Dan's a character allright

Perhaps someone who doesn't completely hate the game could Quick Look it? It's fine if Dan hates it but usually the gang gives even bad games a fairer shake than this.

I Just did this same sequence in 2033 last night, and it was really tense and spooky and highly enjoyable. And I love the opening hour or so Because it is so slow. it sets up the world pretty well.

@poisonmonkey: Jeff has said often he respects dota for what it does and thinks its a good game but isn't for him. I remember during an UPF he asked brad why the leveling isn't automated if all you do is follow a guide anyway unlike the items that he knows are subject to change as the game unfolds, Brad explains that the skills are similar if a little less prone to change each game, Jeff answered something like "Oh right i didn't realize there was that level of strategy there, makes me even less likely to fuck with that but cool"

Although Dan said once about 3/4 in that he respects this game and just doesn't like it, that hardly makes up for just bashing it and calling it horseshit the other 90% of the time. I think the biggest issue here is 20min for two games isn't enough and if the video had been longer and seen some more stuff that gives teh guys something to talk about other that how they dislike it.

Not sure they should have done a quick look on this one. I love Metro 2033, but yes it is a slow and methodical game.

Damn Dan, you got no patience at all buddy. Metro for me was very atmospheric and tense, the slowness felt like it meant something, I wasn't Mr. Superbadass just rushing into everything. I was more calculated and cautious and did things in a specific way because I wanted to survive. Heck, I'd rather play Metro Redux to TLOU myself =V

@mr_gusty: Agreed ,the running length, lack of information on the conversion and any info if this is a worthwhile game if you liked the originals is the problem.

If you take the recent Warriors Orochi 3 QL Jeff did or instance, he hates those games but he at least spent some time with it and took us through the menus to see the various modes etc.

I love it, even better if dan was paired with someone who is openly appalled by what is being said. Love and hate are always fun to watch.

I completely disagree with Dan about this game, but man did I find his seething rage hilarious. That and the awful, gruesome stabbing had me laughing super hard.

I'm not exactly sure how dealing with stuff like your mask breaking and struggling to survive is "boring". Sounds pretty tense to me. He might still not like it, but I think Dan's choice of words is often pretty poor.

Disclaimer: I haven't played this game and am not particularly interested in it.

Quickly came to hear what I felt from playing through the PC version.

Yeah it would have been nice if he walked us through the "boring" mechanics and explained how they worked instead of saying you've got to wipe the mask and I guess your mask damage is health and here's an awesome looking objective interface for a fraction of a second.

I agree that it would have been better of Dans hate fest was paired with someone who would question him instead of Brad who just seemed to kinda spinelessly say ok to most of it. I've never missed Vinny and Patrick so much.

I DID enjoy the midway through halfassed history lesson Brad gave dimwit Dan though. That was kinda fun.

I would have rather had Patrick, because the whole reason I wanted to watch this quick look was to learn whats different with this Redux versions. While Dan's adject hate is bazaar and hilarious, its not very informative.

Shit on Dynasty Warriors all you want, but don't you dare talk that way about my Metros, Dan. :-P

Hah! Immediate irreverence from Dan. Hilarious. I hope no one's actually mad about his opinions at this point. I won't even look in the comments because I'm afraid to see otherwise. I honestly do find it interesting, though, that a man can have such experience in the industry, with different genres, and not understand the appeal of these kinds of games. And I don't say that indignantly; I just find it interesting.

edit: Holy shit. 11:20. I'm crying.

I want a Breaking Brad style feature where the only objective is to piss off Dan.

I will say the point he dived into Metro 2033 is the first part where I didn't get on with it. Last Light takes a more action approach so Dan might've enjoyed it with that switched on. Still, he sounds like such a reactionary.

I eagerly await his series of lectures on World War II.

Everyone else quicklook would have been super predictable. At least this is interesting.

Here is how quick a non-opinionated quicklook is:

"Played metro before? Yes? Well this is a slightly better looking metro, if you're into that. Haven't played them before? Well then you clearly don't want to play it because it's on sale on steam every other week or $10 second hand at any game store"

This is one of the worst "Quick Looks" from Giant Bomb that I've ever seen.

Dan, I get that you don't like the Metro series. However, I recommend not sh*tting on a game so hard in the future. Remember that there are individuals such as myself that actually enjoy the wiping of the mask/the limited resources/the slower story buildup.

I think i get why Dan hates this game: he's just so patriotic that anything russian makes him angry.
