I played a lot of the psp one. It was great except for the awful controls. I'd love one on 360 or PS3 with good controls or a double fine game based on monster hunter.

I really tried to get into Tri but just couldn't, I also bought Freedom Unite on my Vita, same deal. I think the biggest problem is that I'm not playing any multiplayer. I've got a couple of friends who'll likely be picking this up, so maybe I'll give it another shot.

Edit: Hot open to the quick look with Patrick looking badass. But dude really needs to learn to stop over-explaining things, I'm pretty sure everyone knows what you're talking about when you talk about Animation Priority, no need for the 101.

Also as a massive Monster Hunter fan I was thinking the exact opposite of what Vinny said: I can't be happier that Patrick is giving this a go (and liking it). It's an awesome series!

Absolutely. Really happy that somebody at GB is finally willing to give the series a chance. It doesn't even matter if he's not the best at it (I haven't watched yet), but as long as he doesn't just shit on the game it's all good.

I believe the beginners guide that Patrick is talking about is the one on weloveculty.com. It's made by a very experienced Monster Hunter podcaster and is illustrated by his girlfriend(?) who is his apprentice.

Nice to see this though still convinced it is more of a Japan thing. Seems like there needs to be more to your character/story as right now common sense would think of giant enemy threat on the island should better be dealt with dozens of hunters to visit the island over the weekend & kill off everything instead of just sending in one dude.

After getting through the upgrade armor in the QL & seeing the character close up, he looks like he was hit with a bus. Glad to know if I want a loot game, I'll just stick with Torchlight 2. And as someone who plays enough of different MMOs, think Patrick might want to try out some of the newer ones like Guild Wars 2 to see how the combat looks as it's fairly responsive & effective.

I think I'm gonna dust off my Wii and my copy of Monster Hunter Tri and give it another tri...er...try. Monster Hunter on paper has always been right up my alley. And big props to Patrick for giving a shit about the game rather than just going through the motions for the sake of a quick look.

Also... sick burn on Brad. =P

Really great to see somebody in the crew giving the game a real honest shake. I mean, some of the MH.

I wasnt sure if I was going to get this after playing the demo but this quick look has got me interested again. If ive got some money to spare over the next few weeks then I think I'll pick up a copy.

Really glad Patrick gave Monster Hunter a go and actually liking it. Hopefully he can rope Vinny and others to play it with him and we get to watch a new segment: Hunting with Scoops and Caravalla!

As expected, some of what Patrick said during the quick look wasn't correct but I made the same mistakes/assumptions too when I first started out. Given time he'll figure it out eventually.

Good work @patrickklepek and here's a hot tip for you: sheath your weapon more often to run and move faster. You can do a dive during that " I'm scared" run that makes you invulnerable and is essential to learn.

BOSS. Wish I had the bones to splurge on this and a Wii U.

After disaster of quicklook that was MH Tri, i'm really glad that Patrick gave this game a fair chance.

I was all set to watch @patrickklepek fail during the multiplayer section of the QL. Color me majorly surprised to find out he carried the hell out of that team! That was some pro dodging and evading. Too bad there is no TNT for 2 week, would love to see some MH TNT. Also please rope @brad in.

I hope you can transfer to and from 3DS, because I don't plan on owning a Wii U any time soon and would love my MH fix.

Played a bunch of Tri when it came out on wii and even more when I got Dolphin running on my new PC. I really hope Monster Hunter 4 gets a good push in the west, these games are a lot of fun.

Customizing what is shown on the TV and on the Gamepad seems like a neat idea.

Patrick beat that Queropeco down. I'm glad to see he's getting it, and it sucks that it took so long. But he really does seem to have the hang of it.

I just got into Tri temporarily at the end of last year. I'm thinking I might have to get this if I get a 3DS after finishing school. It really is addictive and I put over 30 hours in and didn't really unlock all that much and probably fought less than half the bigger "boss" style monsters.

I really wanna try this out, but I don't think it's worth investing in a Wii U for it =/

@fox01313: A little info; the only reason that there's one hunter on the island is that they are kinda rare, and have to be hired out. The village couldn't hire more than one. Also, the REAL threat of a monster is online ONLY and takes four people to kill it within the time limit. And it's EPIC. Look up Jhen Mohran on Youtube.

Hm, I never played any Monster Huntef Game, but I really want to try it out, because that series appears to be really fascinating. The only thing that scares me off is the complexity. How long does it take to get familiar with the game mechanics if you are a total newbie like me?

Yeah I bought a WiiU as an impulse when buying a new TV.

I'm keeping it for my kids, but dude, that thing fucking SUCKS. WiiU is literally the worst console I have ever owned. My advice is do not buy a WiiU... like ever.

also @patrickklepek Online quests are tailored for 4 players by having the boss monster have more health and other such stat boosts. There are also loads more monsters to hunt, and variants of other monsters in online/multiplayer quests. The single-player boss is really only maybe the half way point in scale and strength. There is a whole end game tier of God Monsters and Giant dragons etc...

They could do a better job in introducing new players to Monster Hunter (the developers, not Patrick and Vinny) but they seem all to happy to sit back and please only the hardcore fans. Though when you sell as many copies as Monster Hunter does I guess it matters little.

Interesting QL, Patrick did a decent job for one so new.

I bought a Wii U at launch, and I've enjoyed it so far. It is certainly not the worst console I've ever owned; not even close. I like how Miiverse works, I like the way the system level and services are structured, and there are already a number of games on it that I enjoy.

If you want to say it sucks in hyperbolic fashion, go right ahead, but no one should take you seriously unless you can articulate why you feel that way in an intelligent manner.

My 3DS copy is on its way, but im a bit bummed about it not having any multiplayer :(

I've been on the Wii U eshop the past hour debating whether or not to tap "Buy". This Quick Look came at the PERFECT time. Gunna watch this first.

Patrick did a good job.

The super repetitive combos are what has and still turns me off to these games... he just keeps running up and doing the same 3 hits over and over...and the monster (dinosaur) doesn't even flinch or react... I don't see how anyone can find that sort of no feedback combat any fun... especially after playing something like Dragon's Dogma...

Patrick totally didn't get KO'd and did pretty well. I know it's easy to just be like whatever about it but I really didn't think anyone at GB would ever try to learn this game, let alone actually show signs of enjoying it. Hunting with friends or even just a cool team is really fun and rewarding.

I loved Tri. Picking this up today for 3DS. The major hurdle for 3DS in the West is the lack of online play -- I don't have any contemporaries who game, have 3DSes and would be keen on giving this a shot. But I'd argue even just the single player worth it. It's still crazy fun and satisfying. I put upwards of 100 hours in on Tri alone. It's like a cheery, arcade version of Dark Souls.

I hope this breaks enough ground here that Capcom is encouraged to localize MH4 sooner after its Japanese release than MH3U. It looks rad. This is a series that, especially for newcomers, it's best to get the newest version because it's the most refined.
