Brad has never finished Super Mario Bros. He plays video games for a living.

(sorry man, I know it's very very rude of me, but sometimes you just gotta)

Sometimes you just gotta what? I don't understand what you're trying to do.

I wonder if playing better on the gamepad has to do with display lag? The gamepad is known for its extremely low latency (1 frame, i.e. 16ms) and the CRTs those old games used to run on had no display latency either.

Brad had an obsessive amount of game-blaming here, but on games like Kirby it seemed mostly like his fault. I don't know how he could have not played at least one Kirby game.

The remixes seem okay, but not nearly interesting enough to make me want to play though NES Remix to see them.

I have a old HDTV with some slight input lag; I tried to play Super Mario World on it, and it was impossible (it was also the game that helped me realize it had input lag). If their setup has even the slightest bit of lag, I don't blame Brad for having trouble at all. Those old Nintendo platformers demand pixel perfect precision.

Even more so than than the last one, I think I'm with Jeff that this is lame. Still uphold that 9-Volt's levels in WarioWare are everything this is not.

It also does highlight how these games require an overt effort to mitigate the input lag inherent to modern game setups today. It actually took more tinkering than I expected to get both Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World to run as they need to on an emulator even on a monitor and wired controller.

It seems this one gets more into the ROM-hack territory but I wish they took it even further and got all the way into SMB Crossover land type shit.

I still don't get this, the remixes aren't interesting, the challenges are neat I guess, but with garbage platforming for 2014, it seems more like a masochists challenge more than anything

It's literally painful to watch Brad play these classic NES games. I think maybe they should have waited for Jeff to come back from wherever he is and just have him do it. Brad, I love ya man, your dota content is great, but yeah...."Brad is bad at video games".

I think we need a "Brad's Dreamland" Kirby play series to accompany Vinnyvania. It might be a nice break for Brad to go from the super hard games in Breaking Brad to Kirby games. He just needs to grow that Kirby knowledge!

Brad seems way too wound up about video games. Maybe he should switch to reviewing quilting or something in a quiet room where the nice men in white coats will take care of him.

Did they not make an effort to correct for input lag here? Because if not then I could see why Brad's having so much trouble, since playing on anything but the gamepad would be a trial in frustration.

If you didn't play it at the time then it's totally understandable. SMB controls kinda like garbage and is almost impossible to go back to after playing something like SMB3.

I have to disagree pretty strongly about it controlling like garbage or being hard to go back to, but I did play it back when it was still new, so that could have something to do with it.

At any rate, I was just trolling. Attacking someone's creed for something like that is way too easy a joke to pass up. There's plenty of timeless classic games that I never finished too. I'm utterly hopeless with anything related to Zelda, Metal Gear, or any first person shooter ever made.

I went back to play through SMB when I was a kid (mid 90s) and I played through it with ease, so it isn't just a thing for NES kids. It was on a Game Boy Color, but I did beat it. I almost fell out of my chair when I heard Brad hadn't played through it, it seems insane to me. It's like a film student not watching Casablanca.

SMB lacks the air control of later Mario games and the traction is weird too. Not being able to head backwards is bunk as well.

@joshua1prince19212: Is it really "literally painful"? Like, does it literally hurt you?

Anyways, played the first NES Remix and it was just boring. The concept has potential, but Nintendo did nothing of interest with it. This dosn't look any better at all. Why make something like this if you're gonna keep it so safe and fucking boring? Who is this for?

The game selection here makes this way more enjoyable that the first one.

P.S.: Brad's bad at games. BUT, the Game Pad's D-Pad IS very touchy. Those problems he experienced dropping pills in Dr. Mario are similar to the problems I've had climbing vines in Mario 2.

That would be a problem if you were trying to play later Mario games with SMB1's physics, but the levels are all built with those limitations in mind. But really, I just don't know what to tell you. I still find SMB to be very playable and very enjoyable to this day, and I just don't know how to relate to anyone who doesn't.

There's a very good chance that I'll refuse to budge on this and then escalate it to an argument, so let's just call it a disagreement and move on.

Okay, I was grinning like an idiot at that snowtime Mario level.

If this trend keeps up, NES Remix 4 will be completely out of its goddamn mind, and I'll probably have to buy a Wii U.

(EDIT: Halfway through the video Brad switches to the gamepad screen, and realizes their TV capture setup is laggy as balls. After this, they stop having control issues. (In case you didn't watch the video you're commenting on. (Which would be dumb.)))

Same, I always find it fun to go back to. First played it around 1990, and it's felt solid to me ever since.
