It would certainly explain a lot. I know every time he says "you gotta be kidding/joking me" I'm thinking the same thing... just probably not for the same reasons as he is. :p

It is funny to watch him rage though, especially if Vinny is around to make light of it. ^_^

I'm starting to think this may be the case.

Roses are red. Violets are blue. I'm on prescription muscle relaxers because of a muscle spasm in my neck and this was still stressful to watch.

Brad: "I never beat this (SMB 1!)" "I've never played this." "I didn't like this."

He's so lukewarm on the absolute golden age of NES. What did he grow up on?!!

Don't forget that his greatest console of all time went to snes.

I don't consider myself great at difficult games, so it always surprises me whenever people say Punch-out was a very difficult game. By the time I was 7 or 8 years old I could already get to and beat Mike Tyson on a regular basis with no losses. Around the same time I had 2 save games on Super Punch-out both with 16-0 records.

I guess everyone had their own bread and butter back then. Mine was just Punch-out, hell even going back to it decades later I still had all the patterns etched into my brain. But just like Brad said input lag kills a lot of these older games as for the most part you had to be nearly frame perfect in your execution, where as today not so much.

Why does Brad play videogames? I have to stop watching quick looks with him playing because I can't stand his yelling and swearing sometimes.

@grantheaslip: He was using the analog stick for the first half of the QL. He switched to the D-pad and everything worked better. I can't play these types of games worth a damn without a D-pad either.

Brad has never finished Super Mario Bros. He plays video games for a living.

(sorry man, I know it's very very rude of me, but sometimes you just gotta)

If you didn't play it at the time then it's totally understandable. SMB controls kinda like garbage and is almost impossible to go back to after playing something like SMB3.

I have to disagree pretty strongly about it controlling like garbage or being hard to go back to, but I did play it back when it was still new, so that could have something to do with it.

At any rate, I was just trolling. Attacking someone's creed for something like that is way too easy a joke to pass up. There's plenty of timeless classic games that I never finished too. I'm utterly hopeless with anything related to Zelda, Metal Gear, or any first person shooter ever made.

SMB lacks the air control of later Mario games and the traction is weird too. Not being able to head backwards is bunk as well.

That would be a problem if you were trying to play later Mario games with SMB1's physics, but the levels are all built with those limitations in mind. But really, I just don't know what to tell you. I still find SMB to be very playable and very enjoyable to this day, and I just don't know how to relate to anyone who doesn't.

There's a very good chance that I'll refuse to budge on this and then escalate it to an argument, so let's just call it a disagreement and move on.

Nah, it's a problem regardless. The game feels like hot shit and was outdated in no time. You're welcome to enjoy it but there's no reason to play it over many of its superior sequels.

Nowadays it's mostly just "This isn't gonna happen." Too much negativity, dude.

Brad is shocked to learn that old games have different physics.

Loving announcer Vinny, too,

But lol at how this video is the undeniable proof that "Brad sucks at video games".

It was kind of funny to hear brad say "I forgot how terribly this game plays", when he was having trouble getting a handle on Metroid's controls.

I fully admit that this video made me angry at times, but I also realize having to play those games with the Wii U controller must kind of suck, so I'm willing to cut some slack as far as his performance.

Kirby is a fine game but you people saying it's the best game on the list can go take a fucking walk. It's certainly better than Kid Icarus, but for christsake Mario 3, Metroid, Zelda 2 and Punch Out are in here. Show proper respect. And man I want to go play Zelda 2 right now.

I don't think that happened. He switched to looking at the screen on the gamepad because he noticed the TV had some delay.

This is a new form of marketing where so much frustration is built in the viewer that it turns to spite, and they buy the game to prove their own superiority to nobody but themselves.

@brad, you play through the game specific challenges in order to LEARN about these games. How they play, what you do, how they feel. THEN you jump into the remixes. The structure exists for a reason. They don't assume everyone has played NES games for years in their childhood which is a good thing. If you don't know how to Kirby, play some Kirby challenges first, get a feel for it.

I like how they slowly teach you the little things and then put a twist on them. Also, using the replay feature helps if you're stuck on how to do things better. Watch someone else rock the challenge.

Yeah, I feel like Brad (and way more Jeff) really have problems grasping that this product pretty much exists to maybe rope some of the younger generation into playing NES games that came out before they were born. I'm sure Nintendo would love it if after playing NES Remix, some young teenager wants to actually buy Metroid or something off of the Virtual Console.

So yeah, it's no surprise that the challenges are pretty tutorial-y. I'll agree that maybe the remix challenges could go a little crazier instead of repeatedly using a small bag of tricks (black and white silhouette, make levels dark, etc.).

Also, Brad is a monster for having never played Kirby's Adventure on the NES. I went back and played it for the first time on the Wii's Virtual Console, and it 100% holds up. It's a solid Kirby game.

Thank god they kicked out the overly jaded Jeff Gerstmann for this.

Edit: That said, holy shit this remix 2 deserves getting actual shit. "Enter the door that lies ahead" ? Are you fucking kidding me?

At least Remix 1 did something that resembles a "hack" ie, the screen zooms out continuously or everything is silhouetted. Jeff was wrong to criticize Remix 1 but Remix 2 looks unimaginative and stupid-easy.

Edit edit: Well I guess I shoulda kept watching. Whoops. Why would this game gate the "remix" content and force you to play through tiny slices of normal games? Seems dumb!
