Quick Look: Nier

Early 2000 called and they want their graphic back.

That perspective switch could make for some amazing gameplay changes. Can you imagine Gears of War suddenly turning all top-down Contra or Shadow Complex in the middle of a level? I'd shit my pants, clean myself off, and play the hell outta that. Also, Nier is easily the ugliest main character I have seen in a game since Bayonetta, whose horribly messed up proportions are the opposite of appealing to me.
 
Edit: I was waiting for something, anything, cool to happen in this Quick Look and then Grimoire Weiss started talking. That was quite entertaining.

So, I don't know if you guys have seen this, but it's worth a watch if for nothing else but the lulz.

I have completed this game multiple times and got every ending, and i have to say i was well and truely immersed by this game.

Shades you say? Do they happen to bring darkness and death? Oh really? UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHG. I'm sick of these cliched storylines.

Slow burn. I think that describes the early experience well.

The last ten minutes of this was the best, the first 26 was kinda slow..

It's already £15 in England. Tempted to check it out.

Nier looks good for a rent but with games like Alan Wake and Red Dead redemption coming out I wouldn't buy it.

I really like the art style of this game & even though the combat looks pretty clunky & unruly I enjoy how flighty the main character is. This kinda reminds of the Soul Reaver games & the voice of the book even sounds like Simon Templeman.

Playing it and the music is incredible. Great English dub too.

This game came out of nowhere for me and ended up one of my favorites of the year.

Love the music in this. Have the game in my pile of shame. But i'm hearing good things.

I just purchased this game today and played with it a bit. It's pretty good, I really hate the fishing mini-game though.

I personally loved this game. Bought it based on this quick look, largely because of the running speed; lengthy Japanese games have no business being so reasonably paced.  
 
For anyone who cares I think the Nier character's voice actor also does the Super Street Fight IV announcer and Lu Bu from the Dynasty Warriors game among many others.

Nier is one of only 2 games that made me cry. In fact I would say it's definetely in my top 25 games of all time.

This is one of my favorite games ever. It's heartwrenching and really, really fun once you get past the boring intro (which this QL unfortunately covers). Easily my favorite JRPG this generation.

I don't think Ryan and Brad know what bump mapping is. This game's engine has bump mapping. It's there, and it's prevelant. However, there is a lack of parallax mapping. That in combination of a lack of high amount of polygons and low res textures are what makes the game look a bit dated.

I picked this game up for cheap in a bargain bin somewhere. Surprised by how much I liked it given how much people shit on it.

You can really tell how far Cavia has come from Drakengard which I thought sucked. It's a shame they won't be making anymore games.

Watching this in 2017 before the Nier Automata QL.

Wow. Real weird seeing this on the front page of the site thanks to the "This Day in Giant Bomb History" when the remake/remaster just came out.

Just started playing Replicant today and happened to check the site to see this video on the This Day in GB History. Perfect time to see all the differences.
