Yep, in the 90's many in congress would have had a coronary at the very thought of impressionable youth playing as a *gasp* bisexual protagonist. Not just the congress-people with (R) by their name either. LGBT acceptance has come a long way in the last twenty-some years.

They'd have probably burned the game industry to the ground before they even saw footage of the gore and S & M dungeon sexytimes.

Moral panics are a hoot in hindsight. I remember Seth McFarlane remarking on some special how silly it is now to think about how The Simpsons was once considered crass. "Oh no, that boy doesn't listen to his father!"

Abby might be thinking of the difference between an auger and an augur.

An auger is a drill, like Vinny said. Usually for boring into dirt.

An augur is a predictor of something, more commonly seen in the form "augury".

NIght trap just goes to show how out of touch politicians are. The whole point of the game is to save the girls, and nothing in there goes above "comic mischief". Night trap is and always has been super tame.

I wonder if the Rob Fulop listed as Concept/Design is the same one who programmed the Atari VCS port of "Missile Command." (If you set it to a particular game and then let the missiles destroy the cities without firing a shot, the initials RF would pop up in the right-most wreckage.)

EDIT: OK, the recent interview — and the talk about Rob programming Demon Attack — makes me think the two Rob Fulops are one and the same.

And it's exactly the reason I hated Night Trap at the time. Even in 1992 it was bad FMV, but you couldn't even get a few friends round and laugh at it over some beers.

I'd have been tempted by this version if there wasn't any gating to the extra features.

this isn't a brilliant mechanic for a videogame from the jump, but I feel like it would be improved by just having way fewer Augers from the jump.

@dr_mel: I only knew the second definition. Also, Augur was a cool character on Earth: Final Conflict.

So I've never actually watched any video of this game before. I'm 8 minutes in and...is this literally all it is? Constantly switching back and forth from cameras?

I never played this but always assumed from the moral panic that it was basically an interactive cheap slasher movie. I had no idea it was this ridiculous.

I can't believe they've actually locked interesting historical pieces behind playing this game. That's almost as baffling as the design of the game itself.

I've heard about Night Trap for years, but never actually knew how it played until that summer stream and this. Man, that's really bad. Not being able to see the "story" because you keep getting interrupted would drive me up a wall. I'd be somewhat interested in those documentaries, though.

When i grow up i want to be a guy who plays a whole lot of video games. It might help me to feature in a film like this.
