I liked the PSP mini version. Don't know if I'd buy it again.

This has been out in Europe at least as long as the PSP go. Odd its only seeing the light of day now in the US.

Was looking forward to 3d dot heroes but now kinda concerned about being able to finish it as I tend to consistently lose at tower defense/rts games.

The little bars indicate how close the towers are to finishing upgrading. You gotta stay in one spot and dance near the tower. It doesn't take that long. Not that any of this matter, after the fact. Game looks identical to the ps3 version. Don't know if I'd pay 10 bucks for it, though.

Just a related heads up that all the PS3 (not PSP) Pixeljunk games are on sale right now for $5 each as part of their Spring Fever sale.  (I think that the sale is good through the end of Monday.  I'm liking Shooter so far.  I don't  like Eden, and I'm still up in the air about Monsters.  (I didn't buy Racer.)

The little red bars by the towers are indeed experience bars. They get experience by killing monsters or when you dance while standing near the tower. The game starts out easy but the later levels get pretty crazy, especially if you try to rainbow(perfect) them.

You'd think everyone would've figured out the tactic of putting your towers in a U-turn for maximum efficiency.

Looks pretty boring, but I've been the biggest fan of these kind of games.

I felt like hanging myself when rather than "dancing" the green tower up to yellow for free, when it's upgrade bar was almost completely full, Brad wasted a gem on it. 
 
Maybe I played to much Pixel Junk Monsters...

haha having played my fair share of the PS3 version, I was getting a little annoyed at brads relative inexperience :P things like dancing to upgrade, getting rid of the arrows for the boss, etc.  
But yeah, someone new to the game wouldn't know that so it's all good :)

if the PixelJunk games had been on XBLA I guarantee that all of Giant Bomb would have played all of them. Just Saying.

If you're going to only get one, get the PS3 version.

Not trying to hate on Brad but I cringe when he wastes gems to upgrade instead of dancing for maybe 2 more seconds for a free upgrade. 
Also I hope he didn't play that far into the PS3 version w/o knowing you could buy new  towers with gems. 
But ya, $10, why pass this up?

So obvious but it took me a while to remember.

As someone who has played over 30 hours of Defense Grid this doesn't impress me too much with its lack of path shaping, juggling or tower variety.

Then again this is Brad playing here, so it might just be a bad representation of the more challenging gameplay. Also the gameplay mechanic details are obviously different enough to bring it down to a matter of taste and personal preference - regardless of platform. (What the fuck is wrong with people here getting into kindergarden slapfights about retarded concepts of 'superiority'? Way to give all gamers a bad reputation!)

as a pretty big Pixel Junk Monsters fan, it was painful to watch Brad not dancing on towers! You can use gems to instantly jump to the next level, but a KEY part of PJM is dancing on towers to gain experience on them when they aren't killing monsters. It takes an interesting balance between having to level up towers and build new ones. Great game through and through.

Man... these guys are terrible! I guess Brad completely forgot how most of the game works... like dancing, it levels up the towers! And save the crystals to unlock new towers (like the flamethrower, the best tower in the game).  
 
Oh well... still one of the best download multiplayer games I have played... especially if you have a girlfriend who doesn't play many games.

Brad you can upgrade towers by just standing next to them!

also, for anyone curious about how you unlock the other tower types, you have to go and open the menu on your "home base" of sorts. Then you can use the gems to unlock towers like the flamethrower and tesla towers - these elemental towers become ESSENTIAL later on when you get shielded enemies that are resistant to physical damage and vice-versa

I both love and hate tower defense games. They're a great time sink with a sense of progress, but whenever I'm required to cash in old towers for new ones, I'm fucked. I simply cannot justify taking down towers for new ones.
