On another note, the soundtrack for this game reminds me a lot of of an 8-bit band called The Depreciation Guild and some of the songs off one of their albums, In Her Gentle Jaws.

Ya know, I think Scott Pilgrim does fight his shadow version in the comic book...

I really wish this game had online co-op. I enjoyed castle crashers a lot and it was a blast when playing with friends but sticking to only local multiplayer really l imits that so i'm torn. Regardless looks like a cool game and a nice throwback.

Never played River City Ransom, never even seen it. Now this looks cool and all but I agree that just punching things could get dull after a while, I think the best way to play through it and not get bored is probably with a friend so that's what I'm gonna do.

this is where the movie tie in gets a bit weird. People who don't know videogames but think the movie is awesome is going to see the game tie in and think "this isn't the movie...". People who do play videogames will likely enjoy the game but for the lulz at the amount of nostalgic throw back.

Oh look. A beat'em up game with few enemies on screen that block a lot and spend a lot of the time laying down making it harder to hit them good, encouraging you to juggle them at the border of the screen only for them to take forever to blink out of existence and so make you wait for the stupid fucking coins you are trying to pick. 
 
It also tries too hard referencing videogames, adds stupid button mashing minigames for no reason and is plagued with overly complex button combinations to pull out inane shit?

Enjoyed the demo, but I don't think it's good enough to warrant a purchase.

I like what they're trying to do with this, but I feel like this QL was enough Scott Pilgrim (the game)  for me.

Are they seriously whining about the video game references?  About how they are trying to hard?  Jeff sounds like a hipster complaining about how Arcade Fire are such sellouts.

this game is really really really awesome.

To be honest I wasn't interested in this much before seeing this quicklook.
I dunno, I think most of those videogame references are pretty cleverly done.

At first I was looking forward to the movie, but the more I see of it, the more it looks like Hipster trash.
 
The game just looks kinda boring.

Jeff is probably more put off by the fact that it's Scott Pilgrim more than the fact it's river city ransom. Take away the hipsterness and I have a feeling he'd at least be a little warmer to it. They both admit that they kinda like the idea, just that they don't dig the brawler genre. At no point to they straight up say it's bad.

Looks like a fun game, especially with a few friends.  Yeah, it looks like River City Ransom.  But guess what?  The world could use more River City Ransom.

Why is the NES STILL so popular? Will it never be a cult reference in America? To have owned an NES back in the day would make you over 25 at least but is the character that old never mind the readers and players of this game?!

It looks fine.  I'll try it.  I don't know what's with all the negative and sarcastic comments.  It's good harmless fun, with a couple friends.

IMO: This is only a $10 game. It is a throw back, not a modern style of game at all. This is meant to be fan service. The game is well made and fun if you are an old NES-area and/or River City Ransom fan. It also wouldn't hurt to be a Scott Pilgrim fan.
 
Also, the movie is pretty good, the books are better. The game is a good tribute to the source material.

While the main guy in the movie makes me want to invent a time machine (to go back in time to get him out of the movie/tv industry), the game itself isn't too bad looking. Yes trying too hard vibe is going on but I'd sure as hell rather play this multiple times through than see 1 minute of the movie.

I'm pretty sure they're using the Earthbound font for their text.

idk. i think this looks way cool. they added a lot of the graphical nuances that happened when your NES got older. I like the combos. Homeboy is in a band called, "Sex Bob-Omb". That isn't trying to be cool, it is cool. If you are trying to be cool you reference Mario or Link or Samus not Bob-Omb. This just reminds me of being 10-13 years old again and I don't see anything wrong with showing the kids of today what we were all about.

Saw the movie a couple weeks ago, it is pretty rad.

So would you say this game is sort of like River City Ransom?

I think it's just that Jeff really doesn't like the Scott Pilgrim stuff in the same way that I, also, dislike what it seems to be about. Based on what little I do know, though, this seems to be a game exactly in tune with what the property's humour.  
 
Tbh, I kinda admire the way Ubisoft have shown they have the guts to do something very different with a movie tie-in game, as opposed to doing some shitty God of War clone.

The irony is that by being so predisposed about this game, thinking it's trying too hard and is hipster trash, you're totally being a hipster that is trying too hard.
