Quick Look: Sixty Second Shooter Prime

Huh - now I'm only thinking about the Bombcast.

There was something pretty great about GW graphics, the simplicity and readability of everything. The red enemies on a red background... not doing it for me.

It reminds me of Space Giraffe for some reason.

It seems to be uh... future asteroids? Idk. I can only think of the time to be futuristic-ish. Meh, maybe not.

Moving platforms, nauseating...

Weird that this game "looks ass" while games with similar graphical quality got a pass.

I like how the scoreboard paints a picture of Major Nelson booting it up only to die in a few seconds and go 'well fuck this then'.

The Mrs. Doubtfire dual-joystick shooter would have to have a "drive-by fruiting" theme, of course.

It's ugly, but I thought it was pretty fun.

10 minutes of Geometry Wars fellating AND some added Resogun hate? Someone stop this crazy carousel of fun!

Game seems ok, I wasn't really bothered by the level change animation, but the visual style definitely seems a bit disjointed or something.

It is an ok game. There are certain things that are cheap about it, going down a level and having a guy spawn right on ya and not seeing easily seeing opponents shots are two big bummers.

The art style is super uninspired. I feel like the gameplay is pretty good but I couldn't get past the dullness of the art.

We need a new Smash TV. Walk from screen to screen, colourful, make it the TV show thing, without dipping into modern day internet mouthbreather humor and memes or pretentious hipster indie irony pixel-art.

Or just Berzerk DX with after Pac DX model.

Yep, one dude made it. It's actually free for Chrome. Good strategy for a game of this "quality". Let's him exploit a hungry audience until the superior competition arrives.

I would have been more okay with it if the perspective was 100% top-down, and now this 45 degree angle deal. I understand they probably did this to 3D effect of the level drop, but it doesn't work with the gameplay for me. And the complex background staying still while the level keeps moving around doesn't work. If it was less complex in the background it wouldn't be as bad....

but that's my take on the visuals.

This game looks ugly, but as for the gameplay, I think Jeff may have been approaching it wrong. Seems like the best strategy would be to fly around levelling up and accumulating more and more enemies on screen, then plowing them all down in the last few seconds, no? The game tips seemed to be hinting at that kind of strategy.

Oh well - not worth the money. Looks like a cheap cash-in on a starved niche market.

The subtle phosphor glow-look to the vectors, the way the background warped and moved as you fired and exploded bombs... there was a lot more artistry to the GW visuals than people give it credit for.

Oh man, toobin in the River Styx sounds awesome.

@rotnac: Well you won't be surprised when I tell you that it was made by one person and that if there were still such a thing as Xbox Live Indie Games that is where this would have appeared.

Doesn't seem that different from the Sixty Second Shooter Deluxe that came out on PlayStation Mobile in 2012.

The thing with those two is that they are going for a specific, consistent visual style and doing somewhat well at achieving that. Rogue Shooter less so, but still. This doesn't look consistent, with the vector graphics style playfield, particle explosions, colored polygon objects (some of which seem to be trying to have that red/cyan 3D glasses look to them, but not all of them) and perlin noise style backgrounds.

This literally looks like an XBOX LIVE INDIE game from the 360. Ugly.

The game was made by one dude as a free Chrome game (and PS Mobile) and was ported as an fast opportunistic grab. That's not me saying "so it actually looks pretty nice considering." That's me saying that the dude wasn't intending on making a nice-looking game. He just wanted to get it out there fast while there's no competition. Smart move, honestly.

That said, I already had my fill of it on the Vita and I didn't think it was great there, so I wouldn't recommend anyone actually buy it.

This is just an XBLIG, isn't it?
