Quick Look: Solo: The Banner Saga

Awesome, been waiting for this...

I really enjoyed Banner Saga.

I felt like I wished there was more depth to the turn-based strat mechanics... though what WAS there was different and more original... but the 'leading your caravan' bits were right on. "Here, make a decision... and the repercussions will affect everyone with you."

Sweet I was looking forward to seeing this in action.

Finally! Really wanted to see this game in action. This long after Alex's review though I was beginning to think there wasn't going to be a QL.

The bad guys are the Dredge? So this is set in the Titan A.E. universe. Fantastic.

I'm guessing this is the new servers' fault. It's like... 2 p.m.

I've been stuck in chapter 3. Replaying the same hour or so over and over again. Apparently I took a break once and it didn't save. And then when I replayed it, I fucked up bad and had to restart. Now I dread replaying that battle again.

Not that it matters. There's so little enemy variety that every battle gets to be a little repetitive.

Despite all my bitching, I really like the game.

Thanks Patrick! I backed Banner Saga but haven't played it yet even though it's installed on my computer, this QL got me excited to do so. I still love the Eyvind Earle-inspired backgrounds and all the other art. If they had to sacrifice VO for that, I think it was worth it. I wish more games had art like this, although it probably works best for this type of game with lots of static backgrounds.

Much better Quick Look this time around! Way better than the Factions Quick Look, that is... :P

I really like the art style of this game, should get it at some point. I still gotta play through Valkyria Chronicles and XCOM.

The terms are "Low Fantasy" and "High Fantasy". High Fantasy is like D&D, with magic being common knowledge, even if the majority are incapable of it. Low Fantasy is like Game of Thrones or this, with the majority either believing magic isn't real or never seeing it due to it being so rare.

Bad move, Patrick. You can't just put up videos named after my popular candy-themed facebook game willy-nilly. Expect to hear from my lawyers soon.

Dear Patrick, if you can't do enough damage to kill an enemy, that's a good thing. Just bring his health down near zero and turn your focus toward the others. That low HP enemy will just be stealing turns from his healthy and strong allies by doing next to no damage. This has been your post game combat tutorial, thank you for playing!

This game looks fantastic. I only wish that I were more often in the mood for turn based strategy.

My favorite thing in this entire game was Iver, for reasons that people will understand. Two scenes in particular. Will watch this later, but Patrick's content literally always drops when my classes are about to start...

Harsh but true. I really don't understand why no one in the office covered this when it just got out. Not only is it one of the more high-profile games coming out of kickstarter, but Alex reviewed it and gave it a good score. It's just a weird decision in a time when not a lot of noteworthy games came out anyway.

Multiplayer Quick Look is up, lots of talk about the game and a review... No ball freaking dropped. How ever... I did get something out of this. I might go get this game now. Plays a little better than I thought.

Patrick, really glad you picked up the ball on this game. Would be a shame not to have a QL for it.

The gameplay seems lacking. If you want a tactical rpg with a lot of depth go play Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre. Cool presentation though.
