Quick Look: The Political Machine 2012

This looks remarkably interesting. It's a shame that you can't play as an Independent candidate though.

They should made a game like this for the UK General Election. You have to run your own political party and try to become Prime Minister.

i said they showed ignorance i didnt say they didnt know who he was lol. its just a sadness which i see and un expected.

Not sure if I feel sad more for the team that made this game that probably doesn't sell all too well or the people that buy it.

This game needs non-combat pets.

Each state has a certain number of electoral votes attached to it, based on size and population (California has 55, New Jersey has 14, Montana has 3). So, in the 2012 election if Obama wins the majority vote in California, he gets 55 electoral votes. A candidate needs 270 votes to win.

The system certainly has its flaws. In the 2000 election, Al Gore actually won the popular vote but Bush got into office because he won the electoral college. It also leads to candidates only campaigning in the few major "swing states" (states with a lot of votes that vary between Republican and Democrat) like Florida. Nixon lost the 1960 election because he tried campaigning in all 50 states, unlike Kennedy who focused on the big ones.

If anyone wants a straight up explanation of the Electoral College but without any references to candidates (purely an explanation of it with a little bit of made up examples to help show different outcomes) then here is a fantastic video explaining it by C.G.P Grey (he has lots of other videos that are very good; in particular, he goes into greta depth on different voting systems and the pros and cons of them). Hopefully this helps explain it (it definitely helped me since I am not American as well).

@Dixavd: That guy also did a great video on the breakdown of UK/Great Britain/England confusion and the terribleness of pennies. I used Gore/Bush as an example because it's an easy example of how it's a flawed system (I think it's the only time a candidate has won the popular vote but didn't become President), and Nixon/Kennedy as an example of how it can affect a candidates campaign. That election was also when personality and looks became a huge factor in the elections.

@ThePickle: Oh yeah those are great videos. And I totally get why you said it, I just kniw that people like me understand these things much better when they are shiwn visually or are shown abstractly in fake examples so that names and real-life events don't start to cloud the judgement being shown (when it is explained akin to "if Team A did this then... but if they did this then..." as it helps people like me understand when the flaws can arise as well as why it is still in use.

Really disappointed that once the basketball jokes started pouring in, no one thought to rename the character to "Shaq Shaqhouse."

did they make fun of ron paul? all they said was that he would say "no" to everything. all that shows is ignorance. i dont think giant bomb are brainwashed/stupid enough to not support ron paul after researching his views and policies . . i just dont think they pay much attention to politics at all. and in some ways i dont blame them for it, its quite disgusting and easy to just turn away from .

@sissylion: The mere fact that you assume that they are "democratic voting" simply because they live in California, is one of the biggest problems with California(I live in Marin and it drives me nuts). Also, this is not the place for this kind of debate, and I doubt the video was ever intended to create such a debate.
