Introducing an alternate "acorn" currency that's entirely microtransactions, and "giving" the player a near-useless amount that can barely buy even one piece of wholly cosmetic bullshit outfits is incredibly offputting. I fired this game up yesterday, saw that shit, and turned it off.

I don't know -- if "microtransactions" consist entirely of completely optional and non-essential cosmetic items which have zero bearing on how a game actually plays, I see absolutely no problem with it. It's not like people who choose to buy a new costume have a "different" or "better" game than anyone else.

You're right; it's just a gross practice that has become all too common. Combined with a bunch of eye-roll-inducing internet meme-y bullshit, it's just not the direction I wanted to see them go. It's a shame, too, because some of the new tracks actually look fairly interesting. I eagerly await the weed leaf outfit, available for 420,000 acorns.

It's entirely possible that I'm just getting old and cranky.

There will be events and competitions in which Acorns can be one. For my part, I wanted the Apache costume for my rider right away, so stumped up the greens. But then, I've played Fusion nearly every day since its release, and have over 250 hours logged, so whatevs.

I don't think they mentioned it in the Quick Look, but the whole deal with Red Lynx VS. All Stars is that the All Stars tracks were built by members of the track building community. Makes that tier an interesting mash-up, and a very strong one. Every track in that tier is really good - some of the best tracks around.

I mean if they are going to have this micro transaction bullshit in a paid game, they should at least give you enough acorns to give you 1 full costume, not just 1 shitty helmet

I like how this QL starts with the usual bashing of stuff "the internet likes" and then suddenly we're in some retro-arcade levels which is awesome yet also something "the internet likes". I feel bashing what the internet likes has become a thing the internet likes, and whether we like it or not we're part of the internet, and we all like and/or hate it.

I'm really not into all the new stuff they're trying. If the unicorn animating or boss mechanics don't work well for this type of game, then instead of excusing it for that reason I'd rather them not have it.

I'm fairly sure for the cat warrior sprites they just copied over sprites from Suikoden.

Huh. I guess you guys just proved RedLynx/Ubisoft right. Six decent to great DLC packs and you've not looked at either one of them. Then they add a cat riding a unicorn to appeal to the "casuals" (I really hate that word) and you're covering it. I get it, I do, but I really think this quick look did both the game and the DLC a disservice. The Awesome Adventure part is really only a small part this pack, mostly there to attract people who've fallen off or new players, while the real meat of it is in the RedLynx vs. Allstars section ... which you barely glanced at. There are some really great tracks in that section, from RedLynx and the community creators alike.

As for track central, there's that whole Uplay Recommended thing you didn't bother with. In there you'll find weekly picks of community created tracks from across all platforms. It's like a small free DLC every damn week and it's pretty awesome. Awesome at a max level even.

So... I don't usually do this whole comment on stuff thing, but I've spent soooo many hours (700 or something like that) on this silly game and I'd just like to point out that there's more to Trials as of now than that dumb unicorn. The community mostly doesn't care about it and neither should anyone else. Core game is still there and the ongoing support is pretty damn good with constant updates (the micro donkey was a free update a while back), weekly streams and the previously mentioned weekly track picks. Trials is still Trials, dudes.

microtransactions do properly suck though.

I never really played much Trials outside of HD, so I never quite realised how fucking far out of field their course designs had gotten. Kinda makes me want to pick this game up.

Putting "stuff the internet likes" in your game is almost always a terrible idea. Even in something that's otherwise really good like Trials or Guacamelee.

Edit: Okay, so there was a bunch more to this and other DLC beforehand. I had no idea. I'm an asshole now because their trick of putting stuff the internet likes in their game totally worked to get more attention.

Is anyone else a fucking suuuuucker for forests with hints of bioluminescence? I think it's my favorite environment. Nausicaa's is the best, but I also love Dust: An Elysian Tail's, and Kokiri Forest in OoT is enough to make me like that game a smidge more than aLttP. This game seems to have a cool one too!

I agree, that the unicorn's animation is terrible. They really should have just taking the stupid meme stuff to it's conclusion by having the unicorn wear rollerskates and have it be propelled forward by a rainbow shooting out it's ass

Ugh, my love for Trials just barely cancels out how much this rubs me the wrong way.

I don't usually get this, but camera movement is too much for me, getting some motion sickness from it.

Maybe its because I'm used to playing Frontier on my phone for so long(its an addiction), and not having played a "core" trials game in a long time.

This video reminded me that this game existed so it might be a good time to pick it up.
