Quick Look: Red Dead 2 Online

Some people do only play these games online. My sister and her boyfriend played a lot of GTA online together but never touched the single player, being able to play together was what got them into the game at all. I'll be trying to get them to play this too, and doubt they'll touch the single player. It's baffling to me too, but some people just want to group up right away.

So far I like what I've seen of this mode but wonder if it'll have the same staying power as GTA online.

Does Red Dead and GTA take place in the same universe?

Danny looks more like present day Sylvester Stallone mixed with Christian Bale in the Machinist.

Not sure if it was said before, but the character Abby creates kind of looks like Ryan Miller.

No, as RDR2 makes numerous references to New York, rather than Liberty City!

Which is a little bit of a shame, as having modern day Saint Denis in GTA6 would be fun. Although I suppose we have Mafia 3 for a bit of that action.

I would say its more of a Al Pacino from Dick Tracy than Stallone.

The ghost coming out of nowhere to tackle Brad was hilarious. The camera angle was perfect on that.

In the intro I was staring at the stockings forever trying to figure out who Ale is...

RDO made some weird choices about having the intro with these voiced cutscenes. Characters speak to your and ask you questions and you just stare blankly the whole time. IT'S A BAD CHOICE.

This looks like turbo garbage. Watching Brad get tackled over and over again is pretty funny on video, but what is the point of setting up the game like that if you want actual story content in the online mode.

Can we please get a series where Abby creates characters in various games? Abby’s Face Factory.

Kinda wish they looked into the purchasing of guns/economy and commented on it, but otherwise I enjoyed this immensely.

@schmancy_pants: Plenty of other games have "silent protagonist" and no one complains then

@avidwriter: I think this is just when things start to hit the uncanny valley where the fidelity of the acting and cinematography is good enough and using a lot of the same techniques in movies so the video game-y silent protagonist thing seems off. I'm sure this is personal preference but I also had the same feeling.

It's difficult to say since I really like Abby's input, but talking over Brad when he's trying to explain what he knows after she professed ignorance on a topic isn't good form IMO.

Holy fuck do I dislike in game player chatter.

I think the only games where I actively engage in the online are the Dark Souls series - which has no voice chat. I don't know how people stand it.
