Glad somebody's finally shining a light on the shadowy tendrils of Big Egg.

Theodore Roosevelt was shot while campaigning for a third presidential term with the Progressive Party. The assassin's bullet was slowed by the folded-up speech and glasses case in his breast pocket. The 26th president finished the 84-minute speech but ultimately failed to win the 1912 election.

We've stopped complaining tediously about Ben, but we've moved to complaining tediously about history, duders' knowledge of history, other posters' knowledge of history, America's knowledge of history, and duders' knowledge of Civ. I'm not sure this is progress.

Anyhow, I really enjoyed this stream, and it makes me want to give that Humble Bundle copy of Civ V in my Steam account a go. Playing it completely incorrectly, of course.

fun stream :-)

now would be nice to have a follow-up, with dan playing and being thrown in deep end with alex at standby for questions.

I like this stream for two reasons:

1. Alex is great at carrying a stream and explaining the finer details of CIV VI

2. Dan's face whenever something confounds him.

That is all.

This was a really enjoyable video, even liked the questions Dan was posing because as much of a Civ player I am (combined 2k hours into V and VI), I like to see people not used to these games at all experience them first-hand.

I do believe in Alex's theory that everyone's first Civ is usually their favorite Civ, but the only exception I think is if Civ III is people's first. I started out on III and while I have some nostalgia for it, it is far away not my favorite Civ game; I hardly hear anyone hold that up with the same fervor as II, IV, or V.

Also....was I the only one that checked the comments first to see if this was a front for another Quiet Man playthrough?

Either Dan traditionally has ham for thanksgiving or he hasn't made the connection that that huge-ass roasted turkey on his dinner table was a huge-ass bird and not meat golem created in a factory.

@alex do you know that you can just right click on the map to move a unit instead of having to left click the move command and then left click the map every time? Maybe it's just me but having to click and move the mouse twice as much seems super annoying

@slaughts: I'll take that challenge, III was my first and is far and away the best game. They've become increasingly soulless husks and the games have gradually gone from a civilization sim to a board game.

I like watching people learn about things and this playdate checks that box! If we can watch Drew Scanlon discover the art and science of CQC, are we not prepared for a long-term Dan journey through the world of governance and intrigue?

Great stream. I, like Dan, don't know much about Civilization. This was a great tutorial. Also, thank you Dan for being interested and patient.

Found it pretty hilarious though that Dan talked about being militaristic and war and poor Alex just got ravaged by Sweden. Just toppled.

Chiming in to also say I also appreciate a Playdate with Dan earnestly learning about a game, it was a fun watch!

Someone tell me this isn't another badly-planned video of Dan duct-taping Alex and playing something, because I'd like to watch a Civ video but my trust has been badly broken by past GBE shenanigans.

I now want to see a feature that has Dan learning to play Civ 6.

Call it: The Ryckert Empire

Really enjoyed this one. Fantastic hosting by Alex and I appreciate how he steered the Weird Al thing away from where it seemed like it was going.

Not that there’s any reason why he’d know the correct pronunciation, but hearing Dan say Linköping really made me giggle.

Not sure why you would completely ignore religion - even just the pantheon gives a nice little bonus, or depending on where you start and possibly what civ you use, it can be rather strong (and it cannot be removed the way the other buffs from a full religion can be).
