I doubt they will, but I hope as part of Brad's breaking contract he has to do the secret worlds as well. As someone who only played the All-Stars version for the longest time, I didn't realize that in the original you have have to finish the game EIGHT CONSECUTIVE TIMES to access four of the five secret worlds. If they switch over to the mister, maybe Jeff'll have a cheat to bypass that requirement.

NES Remix made me learn the optimal speed run route on 1-1. It felt really good once dialed in. I'm sure there's some extra nonsense that shaves off .01 seconds for the actual world record, but to my eyes it was the perfect run.

My go to controller for NES/SNES on switch is the Pokken controller. It's USB and has an amazing d-pad.

I wonder if they know that plugging in a Dual Shock 4 with a USB cable adds around 8ms of input latency but over bluetooth it's actually one of the quickest controllers at only around 2ms of latency with a 1000Hz polling rate. The latency tests were done on a PC and PS4 so it could be different on a Switch but yeah the DS4 is really good over bluetooth but not so much when wired.

I remember finishing this game back on SNES with Super Mario All-Stars but I think on that version you could just straight up save per level.

8bitdo is the only one making perfect controllers for Switch at the moment. I got rid of all controllers on all platforms I'm playing on and replaced them with SN30 Pro+ controllers, they're fantastic.

I'd tend to disagree, the d-pads on those are pretty lousy. It's way too easy to accidentally input a diagonal when you want to only hit left/right, which is why most high-level Mario Maker people don't recommend them. Ultimately better than most other options on the Switch, but they fall short whenever you start getting into anything requiring precision. Which is a shame, they're well-built otherwise, look great, have good support and so forth, but I also had a knockoff USB SNES controller that was a third of the price with a better d-pad.

Anyway, I honestly wouldn't discount the input latency with the current setup. Those adapters are pretty good but still quite imperfect. From what I understand, counter-intuitively, they perform worse over USB than Bluetooth, and they introduce a not insubstantial amount of latency as it is. Given the emulation, adapter, and inherent TV latency, it wouldn't surprise me if a game made with CRTs in mind would become much harder. It might not be Punch-Out, but even a couple frames can be the difference between jumping over a gap and falling right in.

Lastly, did Brad forget you get 1ups for hitting the top of the flagpoles? He seemed to never truly go for them and attributed one of his deaths to going for a few hundred extra points. Hit those things! Get the lives!

That's pretty weird, I've had 0 issues with them (3 different ones) and I play a lot of games requiring precision, especially on PC. Oh well.

I love all the trolling in this game, especially knowing it's an official Nintendo product.

Still never found it that frustrating when I beat it on Wii where there were no save states either. It's probably less frustrating when you're not fighting input lag on top of it.

Watching Jeff react at various points is the REAL highlight. That dude knows how to mug.

I also just re-watched the first episode of the Demon's Souls "Breaking Brad," and I find it utterly endearing how concerned Brad is with "legitimate" playthroughs. Then and now: Brad cares so much.

Hmmm. I wonder if it's not disingenuous to load save states every time Brad dies in a X-1. It guarantees full lives for X-2 forward regardless of poor play.

Now *I* don't care... but I'm looking out for the integrity of Brad's plight. Or something :p

Good stuff but man I'd love to see more Breaking Brads featuring some of the modern indie games out there. Volgarr is still my favorite BB til this day (though the COD one had the biggest payoff #TeamBrad).

the lag is 2-3 frames from the switch emulator plus 1-2 from the adapter plus whatever their tv adds, probably 2-3 more

That sucks! I guess we're not likely to see it then. That's a real shame!

Girlfriend and I were inspired to play this tonight.

You can make that stupid fall in 2-4 if you’re big without jumping on a goomba.

Recorded it just for this post.

Posting from my phone in a hurry cause she needs a break so can’t properly link.

I love this dumb game. It's not a bad game, too. It's still Nintendo level design, just with romhack philosophy. I think it's super enjoyable if you save every level, but even the original is pretty fun.

Actually, digging into it, I'm wrong! The cheat files are there but it wasn't working initially because of some issue with cheat file names special to FDS for some reason. There are totally cheats to see World A~D.

For @jeff and anyone else who who could benefit, FDS cheats only work if you delete the CRC tag off the file names.
