Does anyone know how Sony is handling this installing games to the system/licensing issues stuff?

I'm assuming their games will be also installing to the Hard Drive. Maybe the disc itself will act as the game ownership license? Like you still install the game, but you can't play it without simply having the disc in the machine, as opposed to an online pass or key code thing. That would certainly solve the problem and make it act basically the same as physical disc games do now.

I hope their reluctance to confirm anything means they could very well wind up completely reconsidering the route it has sounded like they're going down. Personally if they don't it's a dealbreaker for me.

I'm not super interested in the stuff they showed off last night, but then that's how Microsoft Conferences seem to typically go under Don Mattrick. I'm sure the system will have some great games, though, and that controller looks slick.

Man, the whole "snap" name for their feature is so dumb, particularly hearing someone use it in normal conversation.

One of the things I prefer about consoles is the freedom I have with my retail purchases. If that freedom goes away my interest thoroughly drains.

Nice that people complaining about the loss of the consumer rights they're used to having is dismissed just as people on the internet complaining because that's what they do. I'm sure Microsoft will be successful in spite of people like me, but that doesn't make it any less sad that they're opting to completely ignore what a significant portion of those who really care about games really want.

Anything about the rumors of a "sponsored" price?

Because if it is supposed to be an 'all in one' media center and appeal to a larger audience, and not just gamers, then would you really pay $300 when there are way cheaper alternatives around?

Though if they where able to subsidize it with adds and get the price down to around $150 (this is just a random number I have no idea if this would be possible) then I could definitely see potential.

Maybe gamers do crave this media center enough to go for Xbox One over PS4, I guess only time will tell.

This over reliance on TV, Sports and other non-gaming peripheral nonsense is going to lead to their downfall. They seem insistent that the games market will follow their plans into this awful DRM-laden, no used games bullshit.

I'm sorry, but if I buy I product I don't expect to rent it for 6-7 years and not be able to as I please with the software that I own, be that lending it to a friend or playing offline.

I sincerely hope the PS4 doesn't allow for draconian measures seen in Xbox One. I'm just waiting for Sony's announcement that they'll allow the exact same things then I can skip this entire console generation.

@printedcrayon: I'm pretty sure MS tries to position themselves in a different market segment than Sony. I read the offer as follows: Yo Sony, you can have the "core gamers", but we take all the Moms (Wiis old segment) but also the Dads + we take the NFL and CoD buyer. Sony is "the gamer's console", they had Jonathan Blow and so on, MS has media. Plus MS needed to split their showing because they revealed so close to E3.

I'm going for 340$ as they'll probably copy the Apple pricing way. Anything more than 399$ is just not going to sell in this market.

I'm kinda wondering if that market just doesn't exist anymore. People who were gonna buy one system bought Wiis, and probably still dust it off at Christmas to play Wii Sports or whatever. MS seems to be buying into an ecosystem that doesn't yet exist.
