This sentence alone has made me glad that I didn't really watch any Binding videos.

It's nothing insulting or sensitive - it's simply a character that is dead and has no permanent health points. He also ties to the deeper narrative of the game that's told in a very Dark Souls-kinda way.

FTL gets the new Advanced Edition free expansion in a few days, I think it would be a great time to give it a try.

As someone that died 100+ times before even getting to Satan, let alone beating him, I can't decide if Patrick is just fucking awesome at this game, fucking awesomely lucky, or both.

He is pretty awesome at it. I've played it alot longer than him and have only beaten Mom's heart once...but he seems to get this far and more pretty effortlessly. He has much better reflexes than me when dodging projectiles, which can often make or break a good run, plus he puts alot of thought into what items to pick up or leave behind. It isnt just luck, he's very very good at this, but watching him play (ive watched every episode), has made me a better player as well

Yeah, he is pretty damn good at the game, and I know my skills improved tremendously just watching this. Previous to this feature, I had given up on the game after dying countless times without even reaching Mom, now I've beaten Mom's heart quite a few times, and even beaten Satan once.

Also if you aren't watching the videos...why are you making comments..on a binding video?

I just came to see if Patrick had announced what game he was going to feature next.

I have nothing against Binding or people who like it, I just don't want to watch it at all. It just seems gross for the sake of being gross. I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that, but the initial impression I get from the game doesn't make me want to get further into it to find out.

Well, it's not. Not sure what else can be done or said.

I would LOVE for patrick to look a little further in the past and play some Shiren the Wanderer.

I'd love to see patrick do something out of his comfort zone (and out of the roguelike fad) like Europa Universalis 4 or Crusader Kings 2

Man, if you're ever saying "I'd rather play this other game.." please just play that other game.

@ames: CK2 is a huge time sink (even more so than Spelunky or this) but seeing the Idle Thumbs guys fumble their way through it was one of the most hilarious video game content I have ever seen, so I’m all for it. (I’m also not sure what the ideal strategy for that would be. The Idle Thumbs guys went in completely blind and only got occasional – often quite contradictory – advice from chat. Sure, that was hilarious, but I do think a more systematic approach might fit Patrick’s style better.)

If the thought occurred for you to stop playing Patrick you probably should stop. There is more to the game but it will take a lot of repetition to get there.

I guess I think the format of these videos would fit a EUIV playthrough. An hour here and there, just revisiting the story of your game. It would be cool to watch.

I guess I just think it would fit the format. EUIV works if you just try to explore it an hour at a time with an audience.

It would also be great to watch - see what kind of nation patrick builds.

I would recommend FTL as your next game. Not only because its a fantastic game, but because FTL: Advanced Edition is supposed to come out April 3rd. Free update with a bunch of new stuff like new systems and subsystems, weapons, drones, even new music and writing(apparently they got Mr. Avellone himself). Its good timing, if nothing else.

I second this with all my heart. I ended up not watching much of this because, to me, BoI isn't a great game to watch someone play. But I would totally dig FTL. Far more interesting watch (and I just love the game more).

This is my new favorite video series on the site and cannot wait to see which game will be up next. :)

I'm curious how many total hearts Patrick actually had going into that last fight. 25+?

I know Patrick is burnt out on BOI, but what about BOI: Rebirth? Looks like Edmund added enough new content and changes to make it fresh and it'll even have daily runs like Spelunky. Best of all it's not a fucking flash game anymore and should actually run without turning into a slideshow.

What next? Well, a true roguelike perhaps? Nethack? Or if you'd like some more RTS in your Roguelike, Dwarf Fortress?
