I've enjoyed these so far. I still suck at the game though.

What's harder to get into, fighting games or mobas?

I approve of these videos. Because of Brad, I'm knee-deep in DOTA 2 as well, but more importantly, these videos introduce DOTA 2 to people that otherwise never would have considered it (like me, until a couple of weeks ago), and also, DOTA 2's in the news right now. Enough people spent $10 for the opportunity to watch DOTA 2 tournament matches (only 2.50 of their purchase is added to the prize pool)that Valve generated ~2 million for this tournament so far. I don't see why a game doing this hot shouldn't receive some kind of coverage at GB. Also it's pre-E3...let Brad do his thang till June :P

I love the look of this game but it seems beyond me. Everytime I play I just feel like I'm lost. It is soooo complicated or I'm just real dumb. probably the latter.

It's sort of like fighting games. The initial hump is really hard and there are specifics that will take time to master like learning the various champions and how to deal with them when you vs them, but it's really not that complex. The mechanics just aren't like other games. There's not really a common place to start, it's either a moba or it isn't. Dota 2 is also considered one of the more challenging of the popular mobas these days.

I've played LoL a bit a while back and have first hand experience at how...hostile and discouraging a moba community can be to a newbie.

That's kinda the only thing putting me off into really trying to get into Dota 2, other than having no one to really draw knowledge from.

Apart from that though, I've been neck deep in TI3 qualifiers and Daily Dota and I'm desperately hungry to learn more!

@cypherix: The GB community is pretty good job of teaching. Join channel GiantBomb once you're in. Also lots of Bot matches help.

If anybody wants or is looking to get into Dota 2 without dealing with the Dota 2 hooligans, I'm usually on and looking to party up with other GB'ers to go against Bots. This way, the only true humans involved in the match are easy going Giant Bomb users who either (A) are looking to get into the game (B) looking to get better at the game and (C) tired of the newb-unkind community. Obviously, the "real action" is doing PvP matches, but this other option does exist and tends to be more beginner-friendly. If you are looking to join up, add me on Steam: Holmes McFly

@mcfart: To be fair the original prize pool was 1.6 million and is now 2.1m. It would be amazing if the prize pool was entirely generated by the fans, but it's really only $500,000.

I'm really glad this has got some traction. I haven't watched any of these and find myself completely ambivalent towards the game and watching Brad play, but I love that there is a feature on Giant Bomb that doesn't appeal to me, it's good to know they're not trying to cater to any specific kind of viewer.

Brad your first death you killed yourself. Pugna had his ward down and when you cast a skill it does dmg to anyone in range based on the mana cost of that skill.

Also around ~15min that batrider totally got the bounty hunter killed.

Juggernaut's spin does damage to towers. He also attacks at 50% speed during the spin if memory serves. It's a useful tip for early game pushes. I didn't get to watch the entire video so I don't know if you used it in there, but it's a good thing to know!

The internet at large may not yet know about @sweep and his desire to be inside of you, but it's nice to see the word is spreading, even if it's only spreading one person at a time.

"Get into" as in "play" or as in "watch streams of the competitive scene?"

On the playing front, fighting games have MOBAs beat, hands down. While the nuance of a given game takes time to figure out, their arcade roots provide them with a very literal pick-up-and-play style of gameplay. And while many fighting games are not without their eccentricities, precious few have the sort of learning cliff that Dota does.

As for following streams and the like, I honestly can't speak to what normal MOBA coverage looks like. But I can say that if you're looking to watch fighting games, I highly recommend checking out Level Up Live and/or Team Spooky. Both tend to be high quality and have regular content to consume. Also, any stream with Ultradavid and/or James Chen commentating is always super informative (and pretty classy).

None of this information is right. At least not anymore. Spin doesn't damage towers but jugg can attack while spinning which will damage anything that doesn't take damage from the spin. So only attacks will do damage when you spin at a tower. Your attacks aren't slowed either, he attacks at the regular rate.

Unpausing like total dicks. This is so much more egregious than any mother insults you love to whine about. Also change bodega, pretty sure the majority find him annoying as shit

I'd just like to say I have no problem loading videos on any other play but yours. Literally every player runs fine but yours. I don't know if there's a way to make these videos private on youtube or something but probably 5 times out of 10 your player just doesn't load or restarts constantly.

It's really annoying.

I'm actually able to follow some of the game play now. I've played a couple of bot matches and two losing PvP matches but as stated upthread the GB channel is very welcoming and easy going for matches, have had no bad experiences yet.

Having said that about following the game, that all goes out the window during team fights as so much is going on and I really can't figure out the timing of spells and attacks as they happen. It was fun to find this game on the DOTA2 site and sync it up with the Daily DOTA video, that way I could listen to the team chat and at the same time I could move the camera around the map and pick other players to check out as well as Brad.
