What is shitty about the "mechanical apartheid" marketing of Deus Ex? Not disagreeing, I don't really have an opinion - just would be interested to hear more about that.

Is this this counted as this week's Bombcast?

Edit: Oh yeah, I guess last year they also released the nightly shows as podcasts on the main feed too. Maybe they are doing that too this year.

It's a shame that this isn't much good if you're not also following everything coming out of E3 to get the "what actually happened" side of it, and there's just too much.

Jeff's description of the Dragon Quest / Minecraft thing sounds similar to "The Variable Man" by Philip K Dick.

Sounds like Judges week was super light this year! I guess that makes sense, what with like half the big publishers pulling out of E3 proper. What a weird year.

Also ugh, that "Art of Charm" thing sounds...gross. The ad read was fine as always, but that product seems skeezy as hell. I don't usually complain about ads, so maybe this isn't the right place. Just...man. If anyone cares, "advertising for that product is not relevant to my interests."

Co-opting a term like apartheid to get some cheap heat for your entertainment product is just inherently dodgy.

While I think Skyrim-ifying Oblivion would work, oversimplifying Morrowind would be boring. Yeah, but it into the latest engine to give it better controls, combat, visuals, etc. but keeping the various systems and nuances that make it a bit different from 4 and 5 would be a lot more fun. Even if it just meant upholding it's faction/guild system.

I had this weird glitch in the podcast I downloaded where around the 41:25 mark when they're talking about EA having NBA games, it immediately cut to Drew asking if there was an Oblivion Remastered and just continued on from there. The audio cut together perfectly, so for like 4 minutes I thought Drew just changed the subject completely randomly and they all went with it. Then I checked here and learned what I downloaded was just messed.

I'm sorry I don't understand this type of thinking? The meaning of apartheid is being used correctly by the game's plot, the game is touching on a problem caused by the superficial differences in human beings due to the rise of prosthetics and human enhancement. What is really wrong about this? Are you saying video games aren't allowed to have this as subject matter? I thought we were past this as a medium but apparently I'm wrong.

Nothing wrong with the concept, but there's only one capital A Apartheid, so using that term specifically carries some heavy weight / expectations. Much like when PeTA invoked the Holocaust - even though the message can be sound, not everyone's going to get behind that marketing tactic.
