This Is the Run: Contra: Hard Corps - Part 08

@glots: This is coming from a position of ignorance, but I thought that's what the Souls games were?

I just check the time each time to see how well they did. They're getting impressive with their skill

I wasn't sure you guys would be able to do it at first but you're making a lot of progress with each new episode. You'll figure out this boss fight next time around (he's easier than Noiman) and then you'll be well on your way to the end game. My bet: this is gonna take 15 episodes.

JRPGs and Japanese games in general love to rip off cool sounding mythological names while attaching it to unrelated creatures. Fairly sure they took Bahamut verbatim from Arabic mythology and randomly attached it to a dragon because it's way cooler than a whale.

Final Fantasy is also no stranger to random Hebrew mythological names being thrown around: Tiamat, Leviathan, Behemot...

I re-subbed for this series... mostly because this game is amazing.

Every goddamn boss in this game must have been designed and animated by the dude that came up with the masturbation segway knights in Castlevania Bloodlines.

You two did really well on your first try at the Jungle stage, congrats!

Here are some important things you didn't seem to notice, though. Nothing too "here's how you beat these bosses":

- The dinosaur sneezes if you attack their nostrils, so leave them alone and they won't retaliate.

- The boss you're stuck on is sorta "physics-based". In the first phase, it spins as you fire at it. If you stop firing you'll notice that it'll deaccelerate and halt. This is very important. In the helicopter phase, as you fire at it, you'll push it towards left or right, so a good idea is to have both of you on the same side (preferrably the right) and fire very slightly at it once the blades come too close. Also, some weapons will push or spin the boss more than others.

K up until this episode i thought this game was of the tough but fair variety. Nope. There are a couple cheapo deaths in there towards the latter half.

So some things about the jungle boss, @vinny

During the helicopter phase, it can't hurt you if you're all the way on the top right and off the screen if you just keep holding up. As far as I can remember it can't hurt you there and you can't damage it during that phase anyway.

@alvarofaraujo: Nope! It just makes this scene less cool and takes you off of my favorite path. There's actually 4 endings, based on the choice at the end of stage 1 and another choice that they almost made it to.

I think Baphomet was who the satanists were invoking in Broken Sword.

Man...the end of that Noiman battle was incredibly tense. Awesome job, Vinny.

You've both improved a lot. I just want to provide you with a couple of tips for the Deadeye Joe battle. First off, for the second battle phase (right after the helicopter phase), it's better for either player who's on the right to remain on the ceiling. The timing for avoid him at the top of the ramp is too tricky, so I honestly suggest that you both stick to the right side during the helicopter phase. Secondly, you obviously noticed how much your shots knock Deadeye Joe back during the last form that you reached. It's okay to shoot him for a bit, but you'll want to make sure that he's as close to center as possible and not moving from side to side from your shots when the laser attack starts, as it's too wide for you to avoid if he's moving too much.

Anyway, I'm really impressed with how much progress you made in this episode. Also, I'm loving your reactions each time the screen scrolls and some new crazy thing shows up. The look of terror on Dan's face as he fought that dancing boss was pretty great, as well. XD

@arzen353: Bahamut is a platinum dragon in D&D, as well. I'm not sure if that helps anything at all, but you know, food for thought.

This game is practically a boss run. A very stupid and silly boss run.

I just wanted to say thanks to Dan and Vinny. My wife and I had our first child about a week ago and these videos have been a fun thing to look forward to when I’m up at 4 am rocking a baby back and forth! I believe you can do it!

I thought they were going to have trouble with the wacky bridge boss, but I guess it doesn't know how to aim when there's two people on the screen.

@dstopia: Since we've all come to indulge in our nerdiness, I'll make a small correction: Tiamat was the Babylonian Goddess of Salt Water and the Sea, not a Hebrew myth. ;) After Marduk slew her in the Enûma Elish, he formed the Earth from her body.

@arzen353: Exactly right! I'd have to imagine that Black Phillip is just something they came up with in the Witch to be easier for audiences to remember.

Alright, made some progress!

If you want a game that has you fighting Bahamut, Baphomet, Tiamat and a whole lot of other mythological monsters then play La Mulana. It has you rampaging through all mythologies as an Indiana Jones knockoff.

@danryckert this has probably been weighing on your mind the entire time. The devil goat is Baphomet not Bahamut. Bahamut is a dragon.
