You don't have to unlock characters, you can play any character straight out of the gate. The mastery stuff is just skins and card packs.

I'm not a moba person and didn't really expect to watch this whole video...but I did. Interesting talk :D

It just doesn't have enough action. It seems so so similar to MMO combat.

Picking a support to show off the game probably wasn't the best choice, but Paragon is a lot of fun and I anyone remotely interested should check it out now that it's free.

@ames: Yeah, that's generally what turns me off of third person mobas. Something about the camera angle makes it seem like games play out in slow motion.

I'll give this a try at some point, it at least looks more interesting than Smite.

No in all honesty, having played a fair bit of paragon, I like what they are doing.. mostly.

Been playing this nonstop the last week or two. Great stuff. Really been enjoying it. :)

May DL and give this a try on PS4, even if to just play against bots. It looks cool and I like mobas casually. It also looks damn good.

The character models look really good but the game has zero personality. I might give this a try but I just can't see myself putting in the time to learn another MOBA. Already too invested in Smite.

Remember when people couldn't tell the difference between this game, Overwatch and Battleborn?

While I did drop off this game pretty hard after a week or so of playing the alpha, this has been the only MOBA that's been able to hold my interest for more than a few hours. Looks to have addressed a lot of things that annoyed me about it, so I am definitely going to have to give it a shot.

It also helps that it's the rare instance of a new PC game that both looks beautiful and doesn't run like total shite.

@dizzyhippos: Are you entirely sure? The main heroes are always free. Other grinding yes. But your comment makes me think that may be you didn't watch the full video and see that the base character is always open. Skins etc.. are another story, ofcourse.

Have they made any mention of new maps at any point? It's the main reason I enjoyed HotS more than DOTA. I just can't stand going into the same map over and over and over again.

The fact that this is a MOBA and not a shooter in any way means that I am going to avoid it completely.

Adding card packs on top of that means it is a big double avoid with no hope.

This looks insanely tedious if you ask me. Characters look great though.

@unastrike, The audio mixing is ALL over the place in this video -- volume suddenly raising and lowering, microphones suddenly cutting out and returning...not sure if this is something that can be fixed after the fact, but hopefully this heads-up will help prevent some issues in the future. ;)

After watching this I decided to give Paragon a shot. I had a blast just playing the first AI game. Maybe it was because I kind of knew what I was doing because I have almost 2,000 games of Heroes of the Storm played. The card system is a little daunting but the recommended set makes it a lot easier. I can see myself sticking with this for a little bit and then diving in when it's fully released.

The minion clear looks so boring. Shooting or swinging once per second looks and feels terrible.

And I really hate the last hit mechanic in these games. Waiting for a health bar to go down and timing a hit isn't fun, ever.

HOTS is still the only moba I enjoy. Really underrated game imo.

Man, and they delayed Fortnite just so they could put this out. Stop rushing trying to cater to current fads and release Fortnite already, damnit.

Character design looks super cool, some remind me of Unholy War, but that's where it stops for me. I still wouldn't touch this genre with a thousand foot pole.

It looks nice, but way too slow and serious compared to Smite. Give it some personality and get crazy with the heroes' abilities.

Steve pronounced gifs as "jifs" so I'm uninstalling Paragon when I get home.

But for real I should play some more Paragon. I'm really impressed with the progress and improvements they've made since the closed beta started.

It's even more tedious to play. Listening to him talk about how they're looking to fill the action void in mobas was really weird because there's no action to this it's very standard moba fare with a plodding pace. If you're going to make an action moba let ranged characters play like a character from Uncharted or Gears and let melee characters do combos and launchers ala DMC, making a 3rd person moba doesn't make it an action game.

They desperately need more sound in the game as well. 40+ minute matches with nothing but clanking metal and a bad UT announcer is rough. Where is the character VO, where's the music, anything to give some personality and flare to the battles.

I'm a bit interested in this. Gonna be tough to get anyone I know onboard though. I'm definetly in the camp where I'm not big on the RTS interface so having it be 3rd person, not click-to-move makes it seem easier to get into.

At least Epic are focusing on getting this game complete and polished. Between UT and Fortnite, they are putting a lot of stock in people not getting tired and bored of betas over the years.

Oh wow that new hero looks awesome. Plus, I typically play supports anyway so that makes him twice as interesting to me. Gonna jump back in later today.

I really hope they add some more personality to this game. Technically, it looks freaking awesome and plays great (they should still speed it up some though tbh), but I feel like it's still lacking an identity somehow.

I don't know that I'd call making a MOBA courageous given how many people are/were making them. Was that a joke? It didn't read like one but at the same time I can't imagine he was serious.

Seemed very dull as Jeff pointed out. Also at no point was it clear who was ahead.

If you're looking for a MOBA to play Heroes of the Storm is still the best bet. Even Dan was able to get in there and understand enough to have a good time. The matches are faster, and there's teamfights even in the early game! More so now even! Currently the meta is all 5 players meeting mid to start to try to get a quick kill before laning starts. It's fun!
