Unprofessional Fridays: 01/29/2016

It's pretty unprofessional to bring in your entire amiibo collection. So is being a hooligan, running out of visplanes, and having a hi-top fade.

The end of the week is here! You made it! Let's sit back, relax, and close the week out in style with some video games.

I'm totally one of those people who thinks Saint's Row 3 was an interior game compared to Saint's Row 2.

The three individualized gangs with their own story, characters, and events were cut in favored for one gang with three artstyles. All the side missions were just cut into the main story game, many of which were delivered to you without any real story outside a very one off phone call. Saint's Row 2 was still really funny, but it also had a lot of super serious moments. There's a few legitimately really emotional moments throughout Saint's Row 2, that just was not in Saint's Row 3. The one thing Saint's Row 3 did better was you didn't have to grind side missions to unlock story missions.

Totally agreed. Saints Row 2 ran quite badly, which 3 rectified to some extent, but yeah, the difference in feel between the three stories and the somewhat Tarantino-esque tonal contrast between the humour, brutal violence and powerful character moments worked really well in that game and distinguished it from the rather straight-laced open world games of the time, including GTA IV. The later games leaned more towards spectacle and cartoonish wackiness. Which is fine, but mmm, 2 was a lovely blend that no other game has done quite the same way.

I preferred 4 over 3, even, the superpowers really were fun.

Saints Row 2 had a much livelier city than SR3 and 4. Also food to skip the health regeneration delay. That's what I felt was missing from later entries.

Also I guess the cartoonier look for 3+ was odd.

@brad: useless information: the line ending issue there is the use of unix line endings (\n) vs the windows line endings that notepad expects (\r\n). This difference in convention has annoyed untold thousands of developers who work in mixed operating system environments throughout the years.

I liked 4 a lot too. It seemed like a happy medium between 3 and 4. It had the wacky humor in 3, but it also had some pretty good character building moments like what Saint's Row 2 had with those loyalty missions and such.

one of these people just had a kid with his wife, and brings it up less than dan does his girlfiriend.

lol, someone doesn't have a date for valentines day

I want to get one of those Donut Create Push shirts simply because they are so stupid. But even seeing the UPF with Lovebeat, I have no idea what those shirts mean. And, I have a problem getting shirts with a reference I don't know about.

I need a better reason to get a shirt than " I think it's stupid"

Yes, I do remember when someone other than Dan has brought up their significant other: Vinny, Brad, Jeff, Jason, Patrick, and Ryan long ago, have done it. I don't remember if Alex has. I don't listen to the Beastcast much, so I don't know if Austin has. The only person I know that hasn't mentioned their SO is Drew.

@jeff I would not buy a new CPU at this time, in your case I would buy a new cooler and overclock your existing chip. The bottleneck exists in the frequency, buying a new cpu at this time is a waste of money afaik you have a 2500k. With a minor bit of tweaking you can get away with waiting till the next revision of the chips, I personally would not change the chip. You can also defer a lot of computing to your GPU(depending on what software you use) in my case I have a 980ti(about %25 faster) and I run extremely intensive computing software(matlab w/ simulink etc).

This comes to the fact that Intel is about at the end of this chip cycle and WILL change it soon.

If you need more info PM me.

edit: chip cycle

I like how Jeff scoffs at the idea of decorating his desk when in every mailbag I've seen, his desk is a disaster zone. I don't think it would be possible to decorate his desk with all the mess he has going on.

The new transitions are amazing.

The main draw for me about Saint's Row is that it is an amazing co-op game. It's a decent GTA-style game that has the ENTIRE single-player experience incorporated into co-op, without a single thing being removed/watered down. It's something I've always wanted from GTA and Saint's Row made it happen. And the fact that you can switch between SP and co-op at any time you wish with zero loss of anything is superb. It's something that MORE games need to do. I've actually never played SR2 since I never had access to it. I played a couple of hours of SR1 at a friend's place (it was actually the very first time I had ever played a 360) and I was a huge GTA fanboy back then so I was like "yeah this is fun but they copied GTA!" SR3 is amazing, played most of it co-op (I started SP since I was impatient and didn't play with my friend at first). Played all of SR4 in co-op, and that game... Still a great co-op game. Fun to be had. But I kind of hated it. The powers are cool, sure, but I also hate that they exist. They make cars 100% pointless, and I quite like driving around with whomever my co-op partner is a lot. The side games were insanely repetitive with little flavor, and the fact that the setting is constantly so dark because it's a simulation was somewhat depressing. Gat out of Hell looked like a lazy and sleazy moneygrab so I didn't even bother with it.

Man listening to their reverence for Street Fighter EX is nuts. I was not a fan of those games. I played EX2 recently and it has not aged super well.

The characters were okay though I guess. There was that one chick with roller skates and a mega buster.

A little over a year later Maximum Override was, in fact, released. How much it changed from this I have no idea, but always nice to see something leave Early Access.

And I agree about Dan and Jason's squabbles. You can tell those dudes have been around each other for a bit too long.
