The more I see of Dan the more I love him. Pogs on UPF? Amazing. I had a bunch growing up but never played them because no one I knew knew how to play. XD

Also, irrelevant thought: The longer Drew's hair gets the more he looks like my ex and I find it really unsettling.

I'm of the variety where, after seeing this I went "I totally had pogs!" I never played pogs. I didn't know what to do with them. They went in a drawer with ninja turtles cards probably. See, I know what to do with cards. BUY MORE of them!

A well-rested Jeff is a beautiful thing.

Should I see the Tim & Eric movie (as mentioned here)? I've seen all of the show and love it, but like Jeff said, it just kind of looks a bit tedious. Should I REALLY watch it? I feel like I'm live commenting while I watch this.

People should really start sending them packages full of random pogs, saws and slammers along with their weird foreign candies. That would be awesome.

God I used to have so many pogs. I had a metal slammer that was made of aluminum. It would fuck up peoples pogs so bad.

I still have my old collection of pogs, complete with indented slammers.

This type of comment always seems a little strange, even though I know that they are mostly not intentionally pernicious. These are not characters on a sitcom, they're real people. They might play up parts of their personality for effect, but they're still real people. At least, I think so.

I'd argue that Giant Bomb has largely been built on, and trades in, this weird new Future celebrity that doesn't even have a name yet where us users are following these "personalities" and we might even consider them part of our outer circle of friends. Jeff (Gerstmann) could probably write a book about it some day.

I personally feel that it started with On The Spot, when I started to see the faces and connect to the people who reviewed games at Gamespot, but it really seemed to become a "thing" at 1UP/Gamevideos (RIP) and then, obviously, Giant Bomb.

I guess my point is, there is no actual feedback that Dan can use. Or he can try and it will end like a Greek Tragedy. And if you're reading this then you've lived long enough into the future to encounter a new social celebrity dynamic. Which still doesn't make up for no hoverboards.

@boomgoesthedynamite: I'm sure he'll be glad to hear your totally non-constructive criticism about his personality. It's good to hear that you're not usually a dick on the internet, since the only evidence we have here seems to indicate the opposite.

I remember pogs fondly in Primary School. That said, looking back they sort of suck.

But screw you Dan and Jeff, The Walking Dead is great.

Quite enjoyed Tim, who I was not previously acquainted with! Always nice to have guests, especially when they are not afraid to disagree with the dominant opinion on a matter. Giant Bomb can feel a little sleepy/dispassionate when things are just completely non-contentious.

The aftermath of Jeff's Pog super Slam was beautiful.

That pog game couldn't have gone better. Tim's commentary really sold it.

They were very arcady games, but Rogue Squadron and the sequel on Gamecube were a lot of fun back in the day.

I still can't understand Jeff's dislike for Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The modern 3D games, whatever, I'm nostalgic about some of them but I know that they're bad as far as 3D platformers go. But that game is easily the best Sonic's ever been. Compared to the earlier ones it's just better and more in every conceivable way. Music, levels, secrets, minigames, graphics, playable characters.

Also, I never particularly liked Sonic CD. It's good, but still a bit worse than the other main Genesis games.

Seeing Tim Turi on this was also pretty awesome. After Dan joined I watched a bunch of Game Informer's Super Replays with him playing (Blue Stinger, Illbleed, Overblood). New Giant Bomb member confirmed?! Please?

Pogs from my country were plastic and were found inside chips bags. Collect them all kind of thing, we had loony tunes, soccer as far as I remember.

I have watched too many hours of internet content in my life, I have never enjoyed a single moment more than Dan's facial expression and silence when Jeff made that lethal slammer hit.

I seem to remember pushing a button or something in Space Quest and ending up in one of the Kings Quest games (though I might be thinking of Conquests of the Longbow) so wouldn't that mean they're in the same universe?

haha this is the least on-topic UPF yet.

I wish I knew what I did with my pogs. Super slammers, poison slammers, spiking (which is using the slammer it on it's side)... I even had a board for it (which actually makes the game significantly less fun to play and so I rarely used it).

It's also interesting ya'll were searching for POGs on google when there was that famous lawsuit that caused them to have to change the name not long after the fad started (and is one reason why they sort of disappeared). They changed the name to "milk bottle caps" or something like that. Pog is a registered trademark or something. At least in the US, I can't speak to whatever happened with it internationally.

It's interesting how the wikipedia page actually ignores that whole thing.

Here's a fun little article about it from the New York Times written in 1994 that actually explains it better then I understood as a kid (mainly, most of what I said above about it is inaccurate- it was a trademark dispute over the word "Pog").

But ya, it's always been hard to find references to the game online due to that game website using POG.com (which has been around since the 90s- I'm actually surprised it still exists). It's easier to find them by their generic name (milk bottle caps) and add the word "game" after it.

I've thought way to much about this, haha
