How do we send in questions for the moviecast? Definitely gonna watch Only God Forgives, and I have a feeling I'll have some questions about it. Also, will you guys talk about it in depth (spoilers). Really hope you do.

Pacific rim was fun. Super cheesy, super dumb, super shallow but super fun. Way more Evangelion then i thought, especially with the characters. I hope the movie does well because I'd love to see that this big budget thing can work.

I definitely want to see Pacific Rim after listening to this. I like how much you guys compared it to anime. It actually made me realize how hilarious it would be if you guys actually talked about anime on this show. The very prospect is so ludicrous and unlikely that I'm cracking up just thinking about it. From now on I will eat one puppy for every subsequent episode that remains untitled. You're on notice gentlemen. Great podcast. Keep it going.

Nail on the head Matt and Alex. So torn on the movie. Love the way it looked but annoyed as to how it fell over. :L

Pacific Rim was a lot of fun, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought, "if only they had a sword... oh wait, they do. Why weren't they using that the whole time!"

@bkbroiler: I agree. I don't know what he was like in the books but just because he was already an established character doesn't mean he is good. I feel like he is just derivative a lot of other characters we've seen who were a lot better. It's just like the villain from Skyfall, he sucked but a lot of traits and his plans were taken from The Joker. Actually, Silva and Moriarty seem like almost the same character, they're both flamboyant and both use the cliche of "lets get caught so we can escape later on". I really wish that Sherlock wasn't always about him because watching him gets irritating after a while. It also doesn't really help that Moriarty's plans are all too far fetched to be believable.

Pacific Rim was good but I agree with a lot of your criticisms. I saw it in IMAX 3D and I think that had an impact on how much I liked it. Cool spectacle but not a whole lot that was memorable about the characters or story. I rented Only God Forgives off the PlayStation video store. Haven't watched it yet and haven't seen any trailers for it. I just know it's by the guy who did Bronson and Drive so I have to check it out. The Wolverine looks OK. They are practically giving away tickets to see it. I bought X2 on Blu-ray for 9.00 and got a 10.00 movie ticket for free with it. Yeah. The Conjuring looks pretty awful in my opinion. I think RIPD looks decent but I'll probably just wait and rent it.

I am sure you guys already know this but not every UK TV show exported to America is made by the BBC. To give Alex credit he did mention Channel 4. I can't count the number of times say Downton Abbey (overrated twee nonsense that it is) is credited as a BBC show. I guess it doesn't help confusion that BBC America shows non-BBC shows.

Foyle's War for example is a ITV show (like Downton), Peep Show and IT Crowd are Channel 4.

RE : Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes on the show).

I agree with Rorie. His drama writing is weak. He is a good actor though and comedy writer. I recommend seeking out The League of Gentlemen (avoid the movie). Amazing stuff.

The scenery-chewing is pretty embarrassing. Too "Big Bang Theory".

Just saw Pacific Rim in IMAX 3D. Man what a great show. The short bits visualizing the alien dimension were really great stuff. The colors and visual design in the HK fight segment were just fantastic.

But I remembered just how terrible IMAX 3D looks. That close, with such a big screen, at such a low frame rate, with slightly muddy colors and brightness = visual vomit. Oh man there were a few medium speed panning shots that just made my eyeballs resonate and my throat clamp shut.

3D is cool and all but I'll take a frame rate doubler with awesome colors in place of the stereoscopic 3D illusion trick please.

@edeo: @gunsaredrawn: I'm glad to have some kindred spirits! I don't love that show, but I do like the character of Sherlock Holmes so much that I kept watching it. However, Moriarty and Adler bugged me enough that I lost my motivation to keep going.

I enjoy Sherlock, but it can be very hit-and-miss.

I also enjoy Luther for the most part, but I was disappointed with how the series went. Luther -- the character -- is cliche, and it's a show that thinks it's smarter than it actually is.

@rorie @alex If you guys haven't watched it yet, you should really check out "Orphan Black" on BBC America. It was REALLY good. The main actress plays 7 different roles in the series (they are clones) and she's really convincing.

Pacific Rim was so bad. I can't believe people like that piece of crap but give shit to Transformers which does anything and everything Pacific Rim tried to do, better. PR had fairly bland visuals, and character development was nonexistent.

@liquidprince: PR is better because we see what happens during the fights, it's not just a blob of grey wheels everywhere... neither transformers or pacific rim are good movies but PR is charming where transformers falls flat on everything. Transformers try to speak to a wide variety of audiences and it shifts tonaly more than star wars. It would be cool if Pacific rim and Transformers would merge however, I would love seeing those pity robots get crushed by fucking man made steel bots of awesomness! :]

@reelife: This complaint is ridiculous in my opinion. Maybe because I actually know the characters in the TF movies, but I never NEVER get confused or mixed up and see who's fighting. I can't say the same about the generic looking robots that were fighting in the dark and rain covered environments of PR.

@liquidprince: Aah yes, the deep emotional characters such as "Deep wang" and Buzz Aldrin (and Sams parents ugh)... So a humping RC car is better than a mega robot? or a vulture? "Here's an ass in your face, fuck you I'm Michael Bay"... pretty much sums up the transformer series, I'd rather watch monster vs robot... although I actually liked the first transformers movie, but after that? Nope, Transmorphers is better.

@reelife: We weren't even talking about character development, but if we were, then I'd ask you to point out anything other then "he lost his brother OMG pathos," or "she as attacked by kaiju and traumatized" because both of those are the definition of paper thin. At least the Transformers themselves have a huge backstory to draw on, most of which remains pretty much in tact in the movies. Sure there is a bad joke or character here and there, but the overall amount of characters are infinitely more interesting then anything in PR.

As for the human characters, Sam had a very classic story of a boy and his first car, trying to get the girl. It may be cliche, but it's relate-able.

@liquidprince: Not talking about characters? You said "Maybe because I actually know the characters in the TF movies" So I replied "aah yes the deep..." You can barely remember what you say, I'm impressed that you can keep up with the fight scenes in Transformers :) also dude fuck Sam he's an asshole "NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO" Transformers should focus on the robots and skip the human characters all together, they don't do anything usefull anyway. Well they die for our amusement, other than that nothing.

@reelife: You're acting a little dense. When I said that I "know the characters in the movie" it meant that I was able to distinguish the robots from one another. It was not a remark regarding the quality of the character development.

Also anyone who says that movie should just be about the robots is crazy in my books. The human element, and the fact that the fight takes place in human cities is what makes the movie seem so cool. You can comprehend a giant building in Chicago falling over, and the idea of that adds a certain sense of verisimilitude. If I just saw some random Cybertronian buildings fall over, it would make little to no impact to me.

The idea of these conflicts happening to humans is what makes the movies intense.

@liquidprince: What I meant by don't focus on human characters is that they should skip Sam, his parents, girlfriend, deep wang etc. I don't care if Sam get's a job or not... why do Transformers 3 focus like 1 hour of the movie on Sams problem with getting a job? Skip that shit and focus on the Transformers only, I agree with your statement that focusing on saving people in chicago is drama and it works fine. But then it usually cuts to something stupid, like Sam trying to use a grappling hook whilst screaming "nononononono" I would love to see a Dark Transformers movie, made by Christopher Nolan :3

@reelife: I quite like Christopher Nolan. Inception is one of my favorite movies of the last decade. However he really isn't that great of an action director. Say what you will about Bay's sense of humor, but he is probably one of the best action directors in the world. The best, in my opinion, followed by Snyder. They both work on making visual effects look seamless and grand.

In all honestly, the only reason Transformers even worked was because Bay was directing. Look at the the other two old school game/toy series that were translated into movies (GI Joe and Battlefield) both tried to ape Bay's visual flair and try and make a successful action movie, and both failed miserably and produced laughable garbage.

@liquidprince: Don't agree with you 100% on Michael Bay being the BEST action director but he's a fucking good action director I'll give you that. Tell you what, both movies got flaws, we both have our arguments, I still enjoy Pacific Rim more than transformers and vice versa. My hat off to you sir for keeping our argument mature.

Actually, there are only two possible reasons that you thought Pacific Rim wasn't one of the most awesome movies ever.

1. You are fully mature.

By that I do not mean you are 18/21 years or older. By that I mean you've lost your inner-child. Your fantasy.

2. You were thinking

For whatever reason, you were thinking during this movie. This is not a movie where you need to think. What are you talking about bland visuals? Elbow rocket. What are you talking about nonexistent character development? 'For my family!'

That was the stuff. If you didn't like it, you were thinking too much.

Wow really? In the Transformers movies, granted I haven't seen the third one, the robot melee fights were such a mess of CG machinery I could never tell what the fuck was going on until one robot flew away and I could vaguely make out which one it was.

In Pacific Rim the Jaegers all look so different from each other and the Kaiju who also look different from each other. Even in the dark and pouring rain, what was happening was always completely clear to me.
