I think you'll still see it around, but it definitely is appearing less and less in games.

No, its in a temporary coma. In a few years people will realize playing with people online is no match for playing with a group of your mates sitting in the same room. At least I hope they realize that. It would be a huge loss to gaming for it to go completely.

I don't really see why it should die. Having people over at your house that want to play isn't dying, so why should split screen. You're friends shouldn't have to stay home and be online just to play a game with you. That's what I think anyway.

i think that they should keep it in games so people can still play with their friends in the same room and play over live at the same time

No. There are always going to be people who don't care enough to buy multiple systems for LAN.

I use it whenever there is someone at my house who wants to play. It's not practical to have LANs every time someone comes over to your house.

No, me and my cousin are best friends and we prefer to play in the same room on the same screen. I just wish that there were more games that allowed split-screen co-op these days. Looking at you GTA4 and Crackdown.

They wouldn't waste time and money developing it if they knew it wasn't being used. The last game I used it for was Halo 3.

I rather like it when I can show people games without having to take turns.

me and my roommate play co-op games all the time, like gears of war, rock band and contra. it's actually one of the deciding factors for games I'm on the fence about.

It makes the "gamers are social rejects" stereotype a little less applicable.

I disagree, but it's a lot easier to get online then to get friends over.

Split Screen is something from the last generation, really.  It's not an easy feature to implement, and like you guys said, it's really been replaced by online multiplayer and online co-op.  You would be surprised how few people actually demand features like local split screen.

    Somewhere, Rich Gallup weeps.

I still play split screen with friends, I'd hate to see it completely disappear from gaming.

Not at all.  On consoles I would much rather play splitscreen than online.

Not really, most games still have it, and I would imagine still a lot of people use it.

Split screen is a lot more enjoyable then playing with friends online, in my opinion.

I used it last night for some Mario Kart at a friend's house and some Gears of War when I got home with my roommate.  I really hope it doesn't disappear, because my friends and I always have more fun gaming in the same room than yelling at each other over vent.  There is something to be said for threatening violence, and then being able to make it a reality.  Every time I go to my local video rental place there are groups of people in the games section asking out loud if anybody knows a good game for two or more players without online.  I try to help, but unless you own a Wii or really like sports games the pickings are pretty slim.

I did dismiss it before but now that Im trying to introduce gaming to my girlfriend and I wish that more games has same-screen or split-screen local multiplayer.

while we are at it , in a game that has split-screen multiplayer, when you take that online do you use one, two or no headset ?

You all know what happens when you talk online and to someone next to you at the same time ,,, all hell breaks loose !!!!
