According to the EA conference call
"They are ahead of expecations, largest number that we have done with EA, larger than Battlefield 3."
They also said;
"In the summer we're ramping up our beta campaign and through September, then we'll be in a position to give our hard ship date."
So that probably means we will get the release date in September/early October, and MMOs usually ship 1-2 months after they announce the release date. So we're close!
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Game » consists of 5 releases. Released Dec 20, 2011
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively-multiplayer role-playing game set 300 years after the events of BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic series, but still approximately 3,600 years before the events of the films.
SWTOR Preorders break EA records apparently.
I want to preorder this really bad, but with so many mmo's failing to wow it's hard. I do have high hopes for this one though. Maybe if I had a chance to play the beta that would seal the deal.
Good for them. I hope it does well. It's between this and Guild Wars 2 for me and I'm still pretty torn.
I just want to play the open beta to see if it's worth my time.I just want to play beta so I can check if my pc needs an upgrade to run it fine or if it can wait.
I'm quite positive the game itself will be wonderful.

@Jams said:They just said Holiday 2011, so probably November or December.wait... I thought they already gave a release date? I thought it was in December?
Oh yeah, I remember now that I got the date from Amazon. This item will be released on December 31, 2011. I just figured that was the release day. Now that I think about it, it does sound like a weird date to release a game.
I preordered just so that I could get into the September beta thingy.
I'm really interested to see whether it will just be more of the same MMO-gaming, or if it is different enough for me not to get bored after a month or two, which seems to happen with pretty much every other MMO...
I'm going to call end of November as the release date for this. Pretty awesome, as I will be on my month-long Christmas break from school.
I'm still surprised.
So little info and so many pre orders?
Is this Bioware's magic at work or EA's marketting?
I just wish they'd tell us the subscription costs, I don't like that they're keeping it under wraps so long, its bound to be higher then expected.

I know that all 7 of my friends who look forward to playing it launchday will not get it if the subs are 15+.
15 is the max, end.
@imsh_pl said:Yeah. I can't see them going over $15, they HAVE to know it would be the death of the game. They can't be that stupid to try and up the monthly price in a genre where people are hesitant to pay even the $15 sometimes.@CL60 said:Aye, but with the pre order stuff being so costly...I can just see them try it, EA's crazy/greedy enough for it. They already had the price up to 55 for the pre order, no way they can get away with a sub of 15+, people will go mental.
If they're smart they're around 12-14 like others, even 15 would hurt, since so far they announced too little about end game.
And besides the class story there's not really a lot of difference 1-50 a second time (so far, they really need to step up with details), so unless they're shooting for a strong influx of cash at the launch and the first few months, I can't see what they're trying to accomplish besides killing off their own game.
