I played through SC1 single and multiplayer, but aside from the GB crew discussions, I never heard that the phrase is something that is representative of the character. 
 Apparently, neither did Blizzard... 

It's the one phrase that I've always associated with Jimmy since he says it every time you click on him. Even before every one started to use it recently I still had that one simple phrase branded into my brain when it comes to StarCraft.

How does this matter?  It's obviously just something they and quite a few others heavily associate with him, it doesn't really matter how iconic or symbolic of StarCraft it is, haha.

THIS! IS! JIMMY! 
and yeah, it's one of the only phrases I remember from SC1.

Its hard to name another phrase I remember so much. Maybe "Battlecruisers are Operational"

Sometimes when I played the game for to long it started to sound like: You want a piece of meat? XD

Probably not Iconic but I always get a kick out of having Jim Raynor as the voice that picks up when my phone is turned off going "This is Jimmy. Mr. Petersen can't come to the phone at the moment so leave him a message and he will get back to you once we get back from murdering some nasty bugs"  
I've felt cool ever since Starcraft 1 because I had Robert Clotworthy doing that for me (back then I was just a fan and didn't work as a reviewer). 
Then I found out he cheated on me and has done it for many people :(  
  
I'm glad that I've been able to keep that soundfile for all that time though. I have a 1gb USB Key now that's just dedicated to that one single file.  
Sadly it's not iconic enough for other people to get it besides the gamer friends and family who are gamers.  
So that's only like 2 friends (I don't have many people I call "friends") and my mom and dad who knows who Jimmy even is.

There are many quotes people associate with StarCraft and "This is Jimmy" is one of them.

The zergling noise is probably the most memorable line from starcraft

"You wanna piece of me, boy?" is pretty good

All are instantly identifiable with Starcraft for me.

So far the voice work isn't as good for units I feel, mostly for the old units, and no "This is Jimmy" is pretty much a travesty.

Commandos has the best unit responses, followed by Red Alert 2.  This is known.

I think Tychus' "Damn, Jimmy..." is the new "This is Jimmy" of Starcraft II, though.

I was always much more attached to "My life for Aiur".

- That noise the Ghost's nuke laser made when he started targeting.

Those spring to mind when I think about Starcraft. I think the whole "This is Jimmy." thing is a good meme, if a little forced.

My life for Aiur, Go Go Go!, I hear ya, Go ahead commander, This is Jimmy, Need a light?, Ready to roll out!, Nuclear launch detected.

Personally, I've got "you have not enough minerals" stuck in my head all times now.

One of my new favorites from SC2 so far is the Viking's saying: "Fight or flight, yeah right".

I think of "My life for Aiur.," and then I think of "This is Jimmy."
