Is it me or does matchmaking take seemingly forever? I haven't been able to get into a single game. Does anyone know if they're going to hand out more invites so there's the ability to have more games going on?

Just select US east, there are plenty of people playing there usually.

Matchmaking in US West and Europe goes on and off. It won't likely be filled consistently until more than 500-600 people are playing the game at one time. Usually after an invite wave (most Thursdays/Fridays) every region will have at least 100 players, so quickmatching wherever will be fast.

For now, just do what mosdl said and select US East.

be thankful that you werent in the beta when there were only 100 people in from both EU and america. organising matches to fit people's timetables was a nightmare and quickmatching would never start. we sometimes had to start a 4v4 in order to get some testing done on some days...
