Tatsumi Kimishima was born in Tokyo, Japan on April 21, 1950. He worked at Sanwa Bank, Ltd. for 27 years before becoming Representative Director of The Pokémon Company in December 2000 where he oversaw the expansion of the Pokémon brand in the West.
Starting January 2002, he took over the position of Director at Nintendo of America (NOA) and was promoted to CEO in May 2006. In June 2013, Kimishima moved back to Japan to take on the role of Managing Director at Nintendo Co. Limited (NCL) while then-president Satoru Iwata took over CEO duties at NOA. After Iwata's sudden passing in July 2015, Kimishima was appointed to interim president of Nintendo on September 14, 2015. In 2018, Kimishima stepped aside as president and appointed Shuntaro Furukawa as his full time successor to Nintendo.
