The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.
So, are people still opposed to a multiplayer Elder Scrolls?
I'm opposed to it for my own purely selfish reasons. Most online capable games don't allow mods and I adore my Elder Scrolls mods. There are several action-based fantasy MMOs on the horizon, so Bethesda doesn't need to make another. Let's see if the whole Fallout MMO thing can be worked out first and how such a game competes in today's market before throwing The Elder Scrolls to the wolves (worgen).
I wouldn't mind some drop in/out co-op action, but not if it takes away from the single player experience.
I'd not mind seeing somewhat of what they did with Borderlands where you can have up to 4 people in one hosted session then it might work. Anything more than a half dozen seems like it'd just lag things down considerably. Didn't really need the extra people while playing the last one but know that there's a few friends of mine that would probably be more interested in the game with the co-op option in it.
GO SIT IN THE CORNER AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST DID!
NO! I SAID SIT IN THE CORNER!
DON'T MAKE ME COME OVER THERE!
RIGHT! THAT'S THE LAST STRAW IT'S BELT TIME NOW! BEND OVER BOY SO I CAN WHOOP YOU!
As far as I'm concerned, The Elder Scrolls is one of the last solid bastions of good fantasy solo play. Anyone who says 'it needs multiplayer' needs to go find a multiplayer game to spend their time on. I'm abhorred when someone suggests that's what the series needs.
No. Just no. Luckily I believe Howard and his team aren't inclined to bastardise the series that put them on the map.

I...I think I love you.
Might and Magic : Dark Messiah had multiplayer. It was pretty fucking good, actually.
Keep your multiplayer the fuck out of my Elder scrolls, if you did add it in any way at all MAYBE like an arena or something (like oblivion's just pvp). That's it though.Thats what I was thinking too. Like a PvP arena Demon Souls style. Maybe even a trading area in a town but not core game-play MP.
It wouldn't bother me, as long as singleplayer didn't suffer any. If you can add something without taking away from something else, why not? I probably wouldn't use it anyway though, I'm just more of a singleplayer guy.
Fuck multiplayer. I like my single-player games and my multiplayer games separate. Typically an awesome multiplayer game has boring single-player, and the opposite is generally true as well.
As a separate part of the game. Dungeons completely locked that can only be played with a friend. Loot to be shared.
That's an exact reason why many people, myself included, DON'T want multiplayer. I don't want to have to be playing with someone else to unlock content in the game - content that the devs have spent their time on to cater to a feature that most everyone is against, content that they could have spent their time doing something more productive with.As a separate part of the game. Also, it doesn't fit the game's plot at all. You're the last of the Dragonborn, and are meant to fight off the threat of Alduin. It's not the Dragonborn and then the Dragonborn's goofy friend. I could say the same for OB; you were the chosen ONE.

It doesn't need to be a part of the plot at all and it can be optional. Bonus co-op dungeons or caves the size of normal quest dungeons that you are free to explore with a friend if you want to. If you don't want to play with anyone else...don't.
Zenimax Online has been working on an MMO for the longest time. I don't see what it could be besides Elder Scrolls.
I wouldn't mind a drop in coop experience. But not an MMO.
I think a lot of RPGs would be better with properly implemented coop, especially those that rely on squads anyway, like Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
I would have shat my pants live if that's what Bioware announced for Mass Effect at E3, but instead we got Kinect.
Yeah, fuck that. If the ES series has multiplayer of any kind, my roommate will beg me to play with him until my ears bleed, like he does with everything else. Don't take my only excuse away from me.
I would love Elder Scrolls to be multiplayer. I'm of the opinion that co-op makes everything better if done properly like Borderlands. Demon's Souls co-op is not what I would want. It was damn near impossible to get any sort of friend join up happening based on how it was implemented.
I wouldn't mind SOME type of connection with another player. I spent over 300 hours in Oblivion spread across 3 different characters (two on the 360 and one on the PC)and trust me when I tell you that shit gets lonely sometimes lol. It's the same gripe I had with Torchlight, you spend all this time upgrading you character, looting caves, exploring ect and the only way you can share it with other people is if you take a pic of it and post it on a forum.
Sometimes when exploring in Oblivion and I had a friend online who was also playing I would invite him party chat and we would shoot the shit while exploring the same cave and comparing what we got, what monsters we encountered ect. Also, wouldn't it be cool to actually SHOW your friends that the giant mudcrab exists to prove it's not just poppycock? Wouldn't you like to go jump off dive rock with your friends? Wouldn't it be awesome to drink an obscene amount of skooma and play tag?
And that's a small portion of what you might be able to do WITHOUT mods. Now if two players had the Midas Magic mod....Giant Dragonian Lightsaber Fireworks battle!
Its pretty easy to just not playing an aspect of something I don't like. Im not a fan of fetch quests either, which will make my Skyrim experience significantly shorter than some people's. I could bitch about fetch quests existing at all, time being put into it, or I could just enjoy the other 50 hours of game.
Yes. If bethesda wants to add multiplayer to an elder scrolls game, their better off making an mmorpg or at least something innovative on that regard.
So once you're getting lonely or not having fun by yourself in TES anymore, go play an online game.I wouldn't mind SOME type of connection with another player. I spent over 300 hours in Oblivion spread across 3 different characters (two on the 360 and one on the PC)and trust me when I tell you that shit gets lonely sometimes lol.
Not every game needs to be suitable at every given time, you can open the tray and swap the disc for something else.
