A average game that got a bad port job to Xbox one

What could have been a fun little action RPG is hampered by technical and game balance issues. Although the name implies that you'll be playing as Van Helsing you'll actually be playing as his son along with his ghost ally Katarina. But he is still a monster slayer and his goal is to bring peace back to Borgovia which has been taken over by a mad scientist. To bring them down the player will need to slash or shoot his way through a almost endless onslaught of foes.

Although it may just be two against many the fact that Katrina also levels up and gets new skills will even the odds. You can even manage the type of damage she does to enemies to better fit your play style. Van Helsing also gets his a few skill trees to go down but it mainly comes down to if you want to use a ranged weapon or a sword. Either way if you want to sling fire balls or spin attack enemies this game gives you the tools to be a master hunter.

Even after getting the right skills for the job this game doesn't hold your hand in any way. From the very beginning even on normal it will send enemies that can kill the player in a few seconds. Yet all those enemies also leads to a unreasonable amount of slow down. At times this games frame rate goes so low that I had to stare at a frozen screen for about 5 seconds before it let me attack again. Along with that the game didn't seem to be very balanced difficulty wise even on normal. Sure I expect a few tough situations but it seemed like the enemies were routinely knocking my health down to danger status in a few seconds flat.

Not that I expect a action RPG to have a riveting story but this one is rather forgettable. Plus it didn't earn the ending it was going for at all. Overall I think this could be a average game that could be enjoyed by anyone that likes Diablo like action RPG's. Unfortunately as I mentioned the Xbox one version has extra issues that make it harder to recommend. If you want to play this I think the PC version would be a better choice.
