The Lost World
There was a time when shooting the shit out of things was completely acceptable... wait... ahem... well games with maniacal weapons and dinosaurs were completely acceptable. Turok 2 on the N64 is an unforgiving and clunky experience these days but back in the day, it was a core shooter. Shooters these days are sharp, precise, and accurate. Essentially, the modern shooter is predictable. We aim, we hit our targets. Our targets flinch and die. Bullets, lasers, rockets and knives kill a billion soldiers everyday. Turok, the rebooted game from propaganda, is not like its predecessor. This game is a dual stick shooter in full throttle, and is as fun as is rough.
You have a knife in Turok. This knife is your greatest tool. The best friend you will ever have. It can kill any creature, regardless of size or strength. This knife is the chaos. This knife is a game.
There are a million win buttons in gaming. There are many guns. Turok peeks at the past and tries to access the future. Think blockbusters aren't anything new, nor are crazy weapon shoot em ups. But the character and execution of this game just feels right. These days, noone plays the multiplayer, but when it first arrived... it was fantastic fun (when not lagging).
Who cares if that gun on the cover isn't in the game. Turok isn't here to tell you facts and truths. Turok is here to shoot scorpions, stab raptors, pin soldiers with bow and arrows, and headbutt villains.
