'lotta people who really just want a PC with the word 'Nintendo' written on the side in these comments.

Edit to add a more serious reply: I feel like people are taking the admittedly lacking launch lineup as some absolute confirmation that this is going to be a wii-u followup and nothing but. While I would have loved to see pokemon stars/a new main series Fire Emblem at the announcement, I feel like it's still a bit soon for either of those to be ready. If we get an annoucement that their portable staples are going to continue to be 3ds only then I'll gladly eat my hat and say that I'm not sure what they're doing with this thing.

It seems like everyone confused by HD rumble never spent significant time with a Steam controller, the haptic feedback on the trackpads is probably the same tech. From what Nintendo is describing they're using linear actuator motors. The "Taptic engine" on iPhones is the same tech, they're just extremely precise and small motors and can be moved in ways that simulate physical things

I have a feeling I'll get one of these eventually but probably not immediately at release, though I'm thinking about preordering one just to sell back on ebay for twice the price.

Personally, I'm okay with the price, since the portability means I'm probably going to actually use the console. Unlike the lump of disappointing garbage that is the PS4 that is just collecting dust due to the lack of games.

I get that most people who comment on these forums often subscribe to the "Japanese games are flailing" garbage but do we have to nullify an entire consoles lifespan because "ekkk motion controls". You know they still have that little portability thing. And LMAO at "charging 80 dollars for the real controller ruins the console."

Some of those switch games make me cringe. Those joycons are ridiculous. Zelda looks good though. I'm not sold on that Mario game.

I laughed the whole way through arms. That game does not look good at all.

I hope the switch fails so Nintendo will stop making consoles.

@kissthedevil: But much of that is just due to the difference in the values of the U.S. and Australian dollars. When converted via XE.com, the prices of the accessories end up being only $5-$10 USD more than what we're paying here in the U.S. The console itself ends up about $350 USD, which is a harsh penalty for you, but the $90 AUD games come out to about $67 USD. (The ones that are listed as $100 on the EBGames Australia website all seem to be labeled as placeholders, so I would be surprised if they drop.)

I'm not saying it's fair, or that you're complaining about nothing. You definitely are paying more than in the United States, but it's not quite so bad as first glance would suggest.

@ronniebarzel: You're correct, however I was commenting on the fact that a lot of people think the American prices are too much and if you believe that to be the case the Australian prices are a kick in the teeth.

We have GST (Goods & Services Tax) here which is 10% but even so that should make the console $440. They for reasons unknown just chuck an extra 30 dollars on there.

I was skeptical of the Switch at first, because I felt that the Wii U's game line up was so sparse. After hearing the the Switch may combine the handheld and the home console market, I gained interest in the possibility of experiencing all of Nintendo's games on one platform. With this conference, it doesn't seem to be the case, but only time will tell what is to come for the library of Switch in the future.

One of my biggest disappoints with this release is that this Zelda game, which I may be mistaken, was advertised on the release lineup of the Wii U. As a Wii U owner, this game being advertised as a future release made me want to get it knowing this game was coming. Now it seems like the bookend to the Wii U's game library.

Having access to Nintendo's portable and home lineup on one platform would make the Switch a huge selling point for me. I haven't owned a portable since the Gameboy Advance, but I am interested in a lot of their releases. I always hated how the portables had games that were exclusive the them, and it seemed over time that the portable drew more and more from the home market. Super Smash Bros. 4 was the latest example and really makes me regret getting a Wii U.

Looking at these comments after nearly 3 years of the Switch is eye-opening. So much cynicism, but that's to be expected after the Wii U. Still, the Switch turned out to be one of the best consoles ever made.

Clicked on this out of curiosity when it came up in "Today in Giant Bomb history," and these comments are absolutely hilarious to read 5 years after the fact. Really puts into perspective how much time and energy we all spend on online "discourse" that just ends up aging like milk.
