Ask Me Anything: Super Monkey Ball 3DS

i think i'm going to puke now.

Three dimensions is too much for me to handle.

If the 3DS is supposed to be as powerful as the Wii why does this look considerably worse than super monkey ball 2?

Me confused...

For me Monkey Ball kind of died when the ball maze mini-game in Twilight Princess was worlds better than the Monkey Ball wii launch game. Similar to how crazy taxi was irrelevant after the taxi mini-game in GTA3, less crazy but mechanically more sound.

Is anyone else thrown off by how violent the movement of the level is? It's seriously disconcerting. It's like there's no finesse in the movement.

I liked me some Monkey Ballz back in the day. Target was the mode to play with friends.

Monkey Ball Act Zero: The nefarious Dr. Money Ball has trapped the Monkeys in a distopian quasi-communist prison, where they are forced to gather bananas and other fruit based items. To make them work faster, they are trapped in prison spheres, with a set amount of air and if they don't work quickly enough or return to base - they die. They must gather the bananas on the dangerous high-plains (hence the use of prisoner labour). Help the Monkeys gather enough bananas and resources to start a revolution and overthrow the evil Dr. Money Ball.

monkey ball is one of those games thats really annoying to watch if you aren't playing. So disoriented.

It's awesome that you got equipment to record 3DS games now guys.

Not that I will ever play this game or have any real strong interest in it, but I just had to say, watching whoever that was playing during the Super Monkey Ball Kart stuff fueled me with rage. Who the hell would ever have picked that guy as the one to show off the game?

Not as much of a fan. Ryan must buy this to experience it in 3D!

Graphically I was expecting more, but W.E I'm never going to buy this anyways. 

Monkey Ball. Same old, same old. Game looks jerky as hell when they tilt.

This alone makes me almost want to throw up.

Very crisp visuals for a handheld, for sure.

This looks like it should be a $3 game on the App Store, not a $40 3DS game.  I loved Super Monkey Ball on the GameCube.  This was the one game I preordered alongside the 3DS; now I'm starting to debate whether or not I want a 3DS at all.

Kart driving looks hella jank.

Nintnedo is showing off 3DS top screen screen shots in 800x480 to better show off the total resolution effect while in 3D mode. To only show the top screen in 400x240 sure looks alot worse. When its really double that. 
 
Would be cool if they released a special Dev console 3DS for reviewers that could output top screen GFX in 2D 800x480 for review purposes as i think its the only 2D way to really show what the total effect could be (in your head) or maybe video out at a higher res (could make games lag thou i guess)? How did you  capture this footage?  
 
(edit) i do release 3DS renders 800x240 400 to each eye not 800x480. but to show a 2D screen shot with that kind of total resolution it has to retain the ratio as well. Each eyes perspective does not "sit on-top" of each other in your minds eye it offsets a little so you actual detail-space would be dubble the amount of gfx detail-space as this 400x240 video capture)  
 
This means the 3DS top screen total res in 3D mode is about half that of the Playstation NGP but the NGP will likely use heavy interlacing much like the PSP did in 3D intensive games to increase performance so likely both devices will be rendering closer to the same amount of gfx resolution data than it may seem on paper atm. Just the NGP will be upscaling/interlacing  it cleaver ways and using some inbuilt screen post processing. while the 3D will be 3Ding it. Ask niNntendo about the 800x480 screen shots and how they got them (if it was in motion etc).. beacuse  this 400x240 method is going to make the 3DS look really bad compared to the NGP on web viewing i think could really damage its core gamer success.

Monkey Fight looks a lot like Digimon: Rumble Arena 2 since you have to collect the energy orbs to Digivolve.  

Watching this again I got REALLY excited for the new Mario Kart

Picking up the 3ds sometime next month, and whats sad is im picking it up for a game that isn't even in 3D (pokemon black).

Does anyone else find it REALLY disorienting to watch this? I feel like by brain is being thrown around 

Well, it's monkey ball. Which means I won't be getting it. That game makes me sick. Literally. The environment tilting around really messes with my head.

Is Monkey Billiards in this? I played that more than the main game in the older titles.

So what's this I'm hearing about a Golden Barrel? Has it appeared yet?
