new Captain America figure looks awesome. Kinda torn on it being a new figure rather than a power disc...but I guess now we're entering the realm of "variant figures" with new Cap and Hulkbuster, or already have if you count Black Suit Spider-Man, but at least new Cap has new moves.

Hopefully there are more Marvel characters left to be announced.

It's just a shame that the combat in the game, especially the Marvel 2.0 characters, is pretty lackluster. The Star Wars 3.0 characters are the ones with the new/fun combat mechanics, but even then they're not suited for pvp combat. And the fact that this play set is for Marvel it means no Star Wars characters.

What a weird thing.

I really like the idea of Disney Infinity but the actual game is just so janky and rough.Trying to fight other players is only going to exacerbate the issues. It feels a lot like playing an old Disney licensed game from the PS2 era. I imagine the series will die long before they get a chance to make the core game better.

Skylanders might be less ambitious in terms of features and gameplay, but those games are hella polished in comparison.

This seems dumb for two reasons:

1. Why just Marvel? Should be all of Disney Infinity.

2. A theoretical fighting game where you pay 15 dollars a character? Ugh.

I know that, as a 29 year old man, I am not the target audience for these toys to life things, but even as a kid this would piss me off.

I mostly agree on #2, although I think the idea is that you're not getting the figures JUST for Battleground, you're also getting them for the other DI stuff (or you already have them).

The last super hero movie I watched was Guardians of the Galaxy, so maybe I'm out of the loop, but what's up with Iron Man's bulkiness? For a second I thought it was a wacky alternate "Hey Kids! What if The Hulk (TM) wore the Iron Man (TM)'s suit? Eh? Eh?!"

Anyway, could maaayyybe be cool -- but it looks a bit like Smash Brother's style gameplay, with all the pros and cons (such as "this is a great party game, but there are so many particle effects cluttering up the screen that I have no idea what the fuck is going on").

@dasakamov: It's call 'Hulkbuster' armor. Basically a bigger suit that the Iron Man suit fits inside so that he can go toe to toe with the Hulk... well theoretically.

Well, obviously the pre-existing Marvel guys from 2.0 don't have the improved combat systems they implemented in 3.0, but you never know what might happen...

I would be pretty surprised if the new Marvel characters being released don't have the upgraded fighting system, and who knows, maybe they'll do something to boost the old guys too; it's not impossible...

I don't personally find 3.0 to be janky in the least though. I think the retail games for 3 play and feel fantastic (& Toy Box stuff is ok, but the load times and general un-polished nature of it drives me away almost immediately.)

My only complaints are that there just isnt enough content, and what's there just doesn't play to its strengths. The light-saber combat is fantastic, and yet, there is so little of it that I constantly found myself starting pointless fights with NPC Stormtroopers wandering around, just so I could do some fighting. Going forward I hope they realize that in the combat-focused playsets, they should really do less fetch quests and more fights, and it would be a monstrous improvement if they just released the shackles on what characters can play in which sets. That's just so arbitrary and absurdly contrary to what the game is trying to sell itself as (IE, a Toy Box where you can do whatever you want)...

There are still more Marvel characters left to be announced - And we were really careful about choosing Captain America for this. We wanted to tie the figure more closely to the MCU, and with the new film coming out next year in spring, strategically it felt like a good time to release him.

We actually added a slot for him. We weren't planning on doing this, but after evaluating all of the cool things going on next year and some encouragement from Marvel we went for it. Happy to hear your opinion once you've played with him, but for now there is your explanation. He really feels like a different character and the value is there IMO.

Ha, well since posting this I've actually become super excited for him, especially after seeing the gameplay videos of him on Toy Box TV. His combat animations look insanely cool and he looks like he'll be super fun to play.

It was mostly just a knee jerk reaction on my part. Being a huge Marvel fan and Marvel being the whole reason I got into Disney Infinity in the first place, I've been waiting for the Marvel announcements and we finally got one and it was just Captain America, lol.

I was always planning on buying him, of course, but seeing him in action just made me more excited for him.

@noct: The Toy Box stuff is most of what i have played and that stuff is quite janky. But i was playing some co-op splitscreen the other day with a friend in the Rise Against the Empire playset and for whatever reason the environment kept flickering for my side of the screen but not theirs.

The game isn't bad, i find myself enjoying it, but I just see lots of little things that make me think "well that could be better". Particularly in terms of the UI and some of the movement and animation.

Also the space combat is a big bummer. I know they need to make it kid friendly but the controls are just backwards and the actual flying and combat is too simple. Who thought it would be a good idea to make the ship control with the left stick? Why does the right stick do evasive maneuvers that could have been bound to buttons? Why does triangle fire the guns and not the right trigger? Why is the acceleration and deceleration on the triggers, spaceships aren't cars! They don't have gas and break pedals!

Just lots of odd design decisions.
