Yay! ...? I've been playing for a while. Solid stuff. And I keep losing all my points to the wager challenges.

Am I completely missing something or are they really just using quotes from completely random people on twitter?

Those pull quotes from twitter users who could easily be fake accounts seemed pointless.

A random twitter user saying "Game of the Year" counts as official recognition now? Will we see a GOTY edition now?

Everything about this seems really… off.

Dunno, this is how I feel about everyone's GOTY opinion..

I think the fan Twitter quotes are really cool. If one of those were me, it'd make my day.

Shows they've got love for the fans.

More important than the random Twitter quotes is the fact that this game is a true return to form for Codemasters. It is rally in its purest form: point to point races and pikes peak hillclimbing.

It takes the strongest points from Dirt 1 and 2 and adds a layer of simulation to it. And even though I suck at the game, I honestly haven't had this much fun in a racing game for a long while now.

I didn't realise this was coming to consoles at all, even if it's four or five months later. I wonder how they'll do.

See what happens when a PC first title is made? Great graphics, great handling (more or less), great fun and best of all, now it can also come to consoles.

@skuupin: im prepared to wager, badly.

I hope it does ok on consoles, its the sort of different racing game they are crying out for. my suspicion is that it will tank however.

To be fair, on Steam the trailer has quotes from reputable gaming sites (in exactly the same places as the fan quotes are here). This seems like the 'fan service' trailer. Still a bit weird.

Is anybody else seeing this as the major headline on Steam at the moment? I picked it up on early access, and from limited playtime there were a few things I preferred over the previous DiRT games (for one thing as I recall Dirt 2 is now useless since GFWL wasn't patched out).

Yeah the splash page for Steam is just Dirt Rally for me also. Kinda glad to see the game getting that kind of exposure.

Best DiRT Rally game of the year.

Seriously though this game is real fun. Played it when it first entered Alpha and didn't touch it for a while so I could experience the full product when it gets finished.

@kidman: It's actually very good. The lead designer is a rally driver so it's a proper simulator-but-not-really unlike other Dirt games which were practically arcade racers.

A trailer which has about 3 seconds of any camera view you'd actually use while playing the game itself.

@kidman: Some of the shots in the trailer do look questionable, the overhead shots of pine trees with snow on them don't look special for example. The level of detail on the snow just after 01:05 on the trees just isn't there. But I wonder a) when this trailer was made (this has been a WIP for some time) and b) also note that most of the footage is outside of the car.

I had a lot of fun when I played it, and it seemed to be less aimed at the Ken Block audience. That's fine by me, although I suppose that's what some people would want. I'm not suggesting that's your interest, but I think a return to the roots of rallying is welcome.

Ah man. Guess I have to get back into it now. Loved the game, but hated having to relearn the physics after the Group B update, but now that it is actually set in stone for the most part I think it's time to properly fire this game up and watch my career go from elite down to clubman xD

Time to drag the computer back into the sim rig!

Wish they would have put in proper triple screen support though before releasing...

I wish I had time to sink back into this, I haven't played it since they added a lot of the new Rallycross stuff, but boy was I sure liking this game.

Group B for life.

My game of the year by a longshot. It's ridiculously tough and frustrating but when you do a stage well it is insanely satisfying. I'm at 160 hours so far and can easily see myself sinking twice that into this game. The pursuit of going faster makes this game incredibly rewarding and fun. Doing a perfect Finland stage feels like more of an accomplishment than finishing a good portion of games out today.

edit: and for the people complaining about some of the graphics not looking that great: in a game like this, it just doesn't matter. Everything goes so fast and you spend the extreme majority of your time staring at the road and listening to instructions and trying to not wrap your car around a tree. It looks great at speed, and that's what matters.

Also, a wheel is highly recommended for this.

Also, VW POLO RALLY CAR YESSSSSSSSSSS Time to practice my Jari-Matti Latvala interviews

The visuals are actually pretty good when racing, but yeah it's not super flashy which helps keep the framerates / performance high. Which is a must if you want that responsiveness and to still feel somewhat in control when you're totally out of control.

@mekon: I should have been more specific in my comment. I was only thinking of graphics, the rest of the game looks like they it's supposed to. I love DIRT games, but previous ones seemed better looking so I was kind of surprised that this one is not looking so hot. I wonder about the price point for consoles, too.

Yeah, I know they could very easily find multiple sources for these boxquotes, so I don't know why they are using random anonymous twitter quotes. It gives off a very bad impression. The fact that they have two versions of this trailer, one with twitter quotes and one with review quotes, is even more bizarre. Who is each targeted at? What difference does it make? I'd love to be a fly on the wall of the marketing meetings surrounding this decision.

Up to this point, it has more or less been in Early Access with a price that has slowly increased as they added new content. I for one, purchased it early on and have absolutely had a ton of fun with it. I am not suprised by the lack of mainstream coverage, however within the Codemaster forums and other sites, fans of the first Dirt 1/McRae along with Richard Burns Rally cannot seem to get enough.

GBEast did an Unfinished of it, which I was glad to see. I for one shall continue enjoying this game and will most likely pick up a copy on PS4 as well.

Side Note: I do not own a wheel, but even with a controller it has been quite the intense experience. Your very first race from within a Mini in cockpit cam sans HUD is the greatest horror game I have ever played.

@ben_h: I thought they were still adding a lot of content, like classic cars and stage layouts. Didn't they add the C4 and Ford RS only recently?

Is the game actually finished or will Codie continue to add cars and stages as DLC later on? Unlike the previous Dirt and McRae games, this one seems more sim like and as a result, I half-expect them to treat it like a base platform for future add-ons. A bit like rFactor or iRacing.

Very smart of them to use twitter quotes. Free positive publicity. Average users aren't going to know the difference.
