If only I didn't have a giant pile of games to play, with more on the way.

I like Monolith quite a bit, but I'll need to pass!

First person shooter with similar experience-based progression elements to Call of Duty, namely the class customization.

The modes are Team Deathmatch, Psych Warfare (basically Sabotage), and Fumigation (basically Domination).

same...but there is a demo out now that lets you play for 60 minutes that actually worked. Played 10 minutes; thought it sucked. Best thing about it is the little animated Batman and Joker cartoons on loading screens and menus.

Wow, that cursing is really out-of-place for an otherwise silly cartoon-violence type of game.

What a waste of a license.

This basically looks like a cross between TF2 and Bloody Good Time. If it had just been a new IP I might give it a fair shake, but this whole product turns me off like any bad licensed product would.

How hard would it have been to just reuse the Batman, Nightwing, Robin, and Catwoman models from Arkham City and pit them against the actual Joker, Two-face, Black Mask, and the Riddler? Or just recycle all of those promotional Batman skins as different characters. It's not like the game needed to make any sense, if funding of the existing game proves anything.

I got it on Steam, it's neat, easily worth $15. The amount of fun it is to use grappling hooks and gliders in team deathmatch is nothing to shake a stick at.

If I'm not mistaken, WB owns Rocksteady entirely. They could make it happen if they wanted to. Or you know, they could have just made their own versions of the models instead of these knock-offs. Point is for the same effort, they could have had a much better product.

You're missing the point of the game.

It's not supposed to be Batman and Nighwing... it's what random people do during the daytime, when Batman is gone. It's supposed to be silly, kind of stupid... and fun. Not to be taking seriously, or with a serious tone like Rocksteady's Batman games.

Also, this is by Monolith Productions. And given some of Lith's previous work (Shogo, NOLF 1 and 2, Contract J.A.C.K.) they excel at random silliness.

And Monolith is owned by Warner Bros.

Because that would have been about a million times less interesting than what they actually did!

Question then: Would TF2 have benefited from an awkwardly shoehorned-in license?

I'm just saying the license is poorly used and adds nothing to the game. Take a look at the reboot of Shadowrun as a Counterstrike-style game. Mechanically it was a fascinating game that was a lot of fun to play, and really very similar to this with a large focus on mobility powers. It flopped hard. Regardless of how good Gotham City Imposters is, I think the threadbare connection to the Batman franchise is going to hurt it more than help it win over fans of that license.

Speaking as a consumer, I would have been way more interested in this game if the premise was changed slightly and it remained more or less exactly the same, except replacing the Batman team with a mostly female Harley Quinn team, and making it a battle royale boot camp for Joker's gang (A variation on how Penguin runs his gang initiations in the AC Museum with a large scale "fight club" setup). That way it could remain almost exactly the same and have way more validity with the fanbase.

I'm not hating, I'm just putting on my Pachter hat and speculating that this game is going to fail miserably. It just feels like a wasted opportunity.
