The Pokemon Trading Card Game Is Coming to iPad

Game websites/ journalists didn't make as big of a deal of the PC version which has been around for years.

I didn't read anything that was in the video. I was jamming to that song, turned my volume to the max and started jamming!

It's gonna be pretty hard to overthrow Hearthstone at this point, but if anything can to it, it's probably Pokemon.

I thought it was the Game Boy game that came out in the 90's for a split second before I saw Gen 5 and 6 Pokemon and got super disappointed.

Yep, every time I heard this was a thing, I thought it was the gameboy game, but I guess it's just a port.

I've been playing this on PC for a coue days. After playing hearthstone games like this and solforge, both solid car games, just don't feel as interesting to watch or play as hearthstone.

If this is F2P, which I'm sure it isn't, this could easily overthrow hearthstone.

It is F2P, giving you a free starter pack to play with. You can also build up points from playing to buy boosters.

I played some a while ago, besides it looking on the amateurish side with the Yahoo Answers avatars, I lost the will to play because I came across people with decks full of legendaries.

Uh, guys, Hearthstone recently reported 20 million players. It is consistently the most watched game on Twitch, just being beaten by LoL. It makes Blizzard a disgusting amount of money. I love Pokemon, but suggesting that this could beat Hearthstone thanks to IP alone is a tad optimistic.

It's not the Pokemon cards that are popular, it's fucking Pokemon that's popular

But we already have WWE SuperCard, why would anyone ever want another card game?

I tried getting into this game but the Mac client is just awful. If the iPad version is stable I'll probably give it another shot.

I played three rounds of this a got my fill of the good times 15 years ago when I played this at a card shop.

@shortbreadtom: HEarthstone is only ever popular when kripp streams it for a couple hours. It gets a little nump when trump steams, but it's no where hear as big and as consistent as LoL/DotA

There's something perverse about playing a video game that is based on a card game that is an approximation of a video game.

Good on Nintendo for trying this out. Hopefully it does well for them.

I remember buying pokemon cards and I was real pissed off because nobody wanted to play the game, some stupid kids didn't even know IT WAS A GAME, they just bought it because it was a fad. They only wanted to do some kind of batshit card trading stock market on the playground.

You say that but even with Heartstone, Pokemon is the post popular card game in the world right now, still managing to keep its popularity even with Magic making a bigger comeback and Yu-Gi-Oh floating around.

I think this is the kind of injection the card game needs to appeal to more people. Heartstone will still be superior but don't discount the Pokemon card game.

Hearthstone reminded me that - in vague terms - mostTCG's were about hoping not to get mana screwed and then getting as much stuff on the field at all times as possible (or maybe just getting the opponents stuff off the field). Pokemon had always been different just a bit, and about a low number of creatures that you're trying to juggle power between.

And strangely, I think it's my favorite now. I've gone and bought a few decks and booster packs since trying out the online game. Even tho it's been the same for the last decade or so, they've done enough tweaking, made numbers bigger, added more powers, that you can have some really close games, not just based on luck.

Wouldn't have guessed it.The UFS card game is still a curious clusterfuck tho...
