ALTTP Randomizer is soooooooo good, I'm beyond thrilled that Dan's playing it.

"There's a super active discord" there's a big ALTTP Rando tournament going on right now that started with over 500 people

edit: btw, there's not only a Super Metroid randomizer but an ALTTP/SM combo randomizer where you switch between games to find items for both games.

Ten minutes in and I'm crying with laughter. Never change, Dan. I don't even like Zelda, and I'm super invested in this.

Replace sword with lantern.

Oh geez I've watched/played too many of these not to have an immediate reaction when Dan misses a chest in an area he probably won't think to revisit..... This could end up being a long run, folks :'D

Why play the game like this it's basically a cheat code. It defeats the idea o f this premise...

This was a fun stream. I would love to see them dip toes into some of the other randomizers out there. There's some crazy shit.

@steveurkel: It's actually way better than that. It turns LttP into a run-based adventure game. He has a lot of items at the start, but pretty soon he hits the problem of, e.g., "I don't have a lamp or bow to progress through this dungeon" - and so a bunch of exploration is needed to try and find a lamp and bow. What can be found and where gets peeled back gradually, testing your knowledge of LttP, while also working your memory in terms of remembering where you've checked, what you can check, and so on.

@steveurkel: Randomizer is random. Getting anything out of order from what was originally intended is basically a cheat mode.

Randomizer isn't "cheat mode", if the game gives you a lot of stuff early then it might screw you over later on the one item you need in order to make progress later or at least have an easier time.

Stuff like boots and mirror in Turtle Rock is not cheat mode lmao

The normal chests are always the same correct? Abby has me wondering if the original chests are random.

You can set how generous the game is with the order of the random items. It can be cheat mode but can also be set to possibly be impossible to complete.

@talon64: The Super Metroid randomizer sounds really intriguing, as someone who half-tried to figure out how to break the game and skip past certain spots/get items early as a kid.

I see a lot of confusion here, so let me recap some of the default randomizer rules:

All of the items throughout Hyrule are randomized. This primarily involves chests, but also includes any place or event that would have a heart piece, heart container, or usable item. There are 216 such places throughout Hyrule, including all the dungeon chests, boss drops, etc. Most of these locations contain "junk", meaning rupees, bombs, arrows, bomb/arrow capacity upgrades (the gold bomb/arrows), but others contain the items you need to beat the game. There are 10 dungeons, and a random 7 of them are selected as "crystal" dungeons required to enter Ganon's Tower and beat the game.

Keys, maps, and compasses stay in their original dungeon, but if they were originally in a chest they can be shuffled to a different chest within that dungeon. Keys under pots and on enemies stay where they are.

Items will always be placed in such a way that the seed can be completed without outside knowledge, such as knowledge of dark rooms or glitches, but sometimes requires using items in ways that may not be normally seen in a 'vanilla' playthrough (such as using the boots to bonk across gaps, or the whirlpool teleporters to get up to Zora's domain). If a seed cannot be completed that is a bug and you should report it on the bug-report channel on the Discord.

Equipment is always progressive, meaning you will always progress from Fighter's Sword to Master Sword to the Tempered Sword to the Gold Sword, regardless of what order you open the chests in.

I don't have a lot of familiarity with the mod, but man, if there is a way to find out where the lantern is hiding, that would be so sweet. LttP is a perfect fit for something like this.

All those cool items he got like the new tunic and the best sword in the game, and the silver arrows and all that do next to NOTHING for him.

By default the Randomizer actually also generates a spoiler containing the location of each item that you can check if you are stuck. Though the names of the locations can be somewhat cryptic at first...

This video is amazing, its like seeing Dan getting SandBird all the time.

Dan sounds just like his dad throughout this. As someone who has as much love for ALttP as Dan, this is awesome. God this game is still the best.

Yeah, the chat was going crazy asking for a reset after the first hour, without realizing how little most of those things did, and how easy it is to miss a chest that happens to have a key item. Especially if you're coming from a casual playthrough style, there are a ton of little chests that have crap in them that people never find. The difficulty in this doesn't come from killing the bosses or dying.

I guess lowercase letters got locked away in a different, yet-to-be-discovered chest as well.

This whole damn thing was blown wide open!
