This is the New Guitar Hero

It's actually a bit of a nice touch that the FMV changes based on performance (You can see the screen flicker dark/light when it changes between the "good" and "bad" FMVs), but it seems waaaay too easy to swing the band back positive if you miss a ton of notes. I feel like deliberate missing like that would fail you out real quick with the older games, might just be the game's on easy though.

Yeah, the whole real video back drop makes it feel super cringe worthy. However, that could be the song selection and the band. If they had it playing some Mastodon with them on stage, it'd probably be pretty rad.

I admit I got a bit tingly once I realized this was an FMV game. So long as they take it super seriously it could be a great kind of corny.

I like a different take for this genre, but how are you gonna release a trailer were the person fails at parts of the song?

I actually kind of dig the transition between the band members giving you dirty looks for screwing up and back. It's super cheesy, but not completely unlike actually playing on stage with a band.

I got bummed out because I think this looks like shit, then I remembered this is guitar hero not rock band.

@brianp: They're both dumb franchises at this point, plastic instrument games are well past their sell by date. I see neither series making a comeback honestly.

I actually got sorta excited when I saw the picture of the new guitar. Then the live action video started... I guess I could see myself enjoying it if it's like my favorite band and they get the tone right etc, but considering how scattershot the song selection for these games usually is it's just gonna make the whole thing extremely uncomfortable.

So all the songs are recorded with different reactions from other musicians and audience? There'll probably be about 10 songs in the game then.

The moment you realise this live action stuff is so they can start selling DLC packs for not only tracks from the band but 'perform with the band on stage' FMV cutscene packages that's the moment all of this makes perfect 'Activision sense'.

How is this dance music? What music do you dance to?

Also how much do you think DLC will cost when you have to shoot the entire performance multiple times in multiple angles and multiple reactions?

Is it just me or is the sound out of sync? Or perhaps whoever recorded this has a system with some delay and the calibration to make the audio and highway match up while playing is messing with how the recording looks? That would actually make sense.

I can only get excited about this if Rob Schneider, star of such great FMV classics as A Fork In The Tale, plays my band manager.

It honestly felt like they were playing battle mode or something... the notes they were missing didn't even make sense. They would miss entire stretches and not be able to recover for 6 seconds, despite the fact that the same note was just repeating the entire time. There is just so much that feels wrong about this video, and I don't even mind Fall Out Boy.

Oh man, I think this is a really cool idea, and HUGE props for trying something different and taking a chance...but I didn't like what I saw very much. The camera spins kinda hurt my eyes/head a bit too. Maybe this is better in practice :/

@gvalo: Centuries is already being played to death on Root sports during Penguins games. I expect we will get both songs played to death now for the play offs.

FMV+Fall out Boy reveal+ mandatory new instruments = no buy for me. I'm getting Rock Band 4, but that's for holidays/parties since my family loves to play it when we get together.

@mageboysa: as soon as I heard Centuries I knew the NHL would make it their playoff theme this year. That's just another reason I'm glad I don't watch more than a couple penguins games a year.

Per reddit, they're not even making this game backwards compatible with old DLC. That's another win for Rock Band right there

Am I missing something or does this not imply that every time there's a DLC release, Activision has to go out and film the "band" for however many performance states there are, AND truck in ~two dozen audience extras for however many reaction shots there are?

Just seems like any DLC songs will take forever to be released, and the file sizes will be tremendous, as a result.

I'm guessing the POV is from the Guitarist's perspective but I don't know why he would be down on the ground looking up at the drummer like you saw at some parts during the video.

Edit: I hope Activision sees all this backlash and makes a better game. The Gamespot coverage implies that there will be quite a few songs that you play over the top of the actual music video to the songs, which isn't nearly as bad as this, but that new guitar and other things makes me think that this is all aimed at a new audience.

Since the beginning? Their first album, "Take This To Your Grave," was almost nothing but pop hooks.
